Here's what happened to me the other day...I spilled the whole cup of boiling coffee in my lap. I was sitting in the dinning room with my mother and my grandmother and when t happened I started screaming and taking off my clothes. Now I have 2 big red mark on my leg but not only that the mark has bubbles on it. Person A: So my mother said...O my God it really looks terrible it gotta be burning like hell! and started comforting me by saying she felt sorry for me and insisting on the painful aspects of the event. Person B: Here's what my grandma said...Don't worry it is noting serious it could have been much worst, you could have burnt the whole leg not only parts of it. So which of these two are you. A comforting but a bit negative person or heartless and positive? Is the cup half empty or half full? Which of these two person annoys you more? I really didn't know which one was worst at the moment...my grandma because she was so heartless and didn't understand my pain or my mother who kept reminding me about it.

I am a mixture of A and B type. The hot coffee did fall on the lap and it did pain. So we should first console the sufferer with good words like how we say to children, 'Oh God! so sorry it happened.' Then we should give courage for the person to come out of the shock and get courage to face the situation.

Thanks for your kind words. It still hurts when I touch the spot and it isn't even red any more it is dark brown. I just hope it won't leave a mark on my skin but I am quite sure it will, unfortunately.

No, it may not leave mark on your skin if you do one thing. Do you get sesame seeds oil in your place? You apply that oil whenever you can on the mark. Shortly the mark will fade away. When we get marks on our stomach after delivery, we do this and the mark fades away. There is no side effect. You can try this. In India we call it til oil and in tamil we say ellennai, ellu is sesame ennai means oil.

I have never heard about this oil but I will look for it in the pharmacy or even at the section of healthy food. It is Monday tomorrow and I was planing to go to the shop anyway. Thanks for this advice I hope is going to function.

Hi, lorelai. I am both of these type of persons. I will feel sorry for you and then I will try to cover up the incident as if it could have been much worse if it had to have went further. I am so sorry that you spilled hot coffee on your legs yesterday. And I hope that you will feel much better very soon.

Hello, You mother sounds like my mother... but she would take care of me right the way, rush to get something to help me. My grandma will be so worry and keep asking me every second for sure. well, I work in coffee shop and most of the time I make coffee... sometimes it is very busy and I rush the coffee for customers...One day I had an accident by pull a whole pot of coffee out and it spilled over my hand. It burned so bad and I thought my hand will be mark like that forever. But lucky my home remedy got my hand back to normal. I used tooth past until my hand got better

A toothpaste? That sounds interesting, I use toothpaste to make the zits go away. I can imagine the pain you felt when you spilled the coffee.

i choose A to be annoying. i tried analyze the scenario because A could be talking about the issue for say more than 3 minutes while B after sharing her little part, immediately shut up. anyway, its only an opinion for me. happy mylotting lorelai

Thanks for trying to analyze the scenario. Well, the situation was rather funny when I think about it now. I was holding the cup and making some jokes when I dropped the cup and started screaming and taking my clothes off. Happy MyLotting to you too drakesuyat

I understand that point of view because I know the way my grandma thinks, she is not a bad person but she is more like; Stop whining it is not that terrible.

I prefer the cup half full... I would have comforted, made sure you were ok, and got some aloe to help with the burn. But, I seem to be the security blanket for all those around.

For that moment your mother's attitude was the one I would be in favour of. It is alright being positive but that was not the time for your grand mother to come up with it. First things first. You needed comfort and immediate care and your mother did it and I would be like your mother. I too am a positive person but everything has a time and place. I remember as a kid if we had a fall someone would say "I told you not to go there" Here we are in agony and that is the last thing one would want to hear

You are right, there's nothing worst than when someone say ''I told you so''. I preferred my mother's reaction because I though to myself that my Grandma didn't really understand that it hurt sooo much.

i think B would annoy me more. thinking about it, your in pain, A is saying it's okay, you'll be fine, but B is like, your fine get over it! i hate that kind of attitude, you can be a little sympathetic of the pain your in, you dont have to act like you couldn't care less. thats just my opinion

Thanks for sharing your opinion. I understand your point of view and I agree. my grandma wasn't trying to be cold, that's just her way of being realistic but in these kind of situations a little bit of comforting is much more appreciated.
