Why Are Sitcom Living Rooms All Look The Same?

I watch a lot of sitcoms on tv and one thing that I notice is that most set-ups are the same. Generally it's like this from left to right, the front entrance then the living room, then an entrance to the kitchen. Oftentimes there is a staircase on the back of the sofa in the living room. Does anyone notice this too?
