Which are you consider more on a car, safe or fuel-efficient / myLot

Hi friends, I'm going to buy a car. By research I get an impression, Japanese cars are fuel-efficient, that would save my money, and German cars are more safe, that would keep me from hurt in accident. Which would I consider more, if you were me, what's your choice?

for me, i will choose the fuel-efficient. how u compare the safety level betwen German and Japanese car?
