in China, it is. readers are most teenagers and twenties. and most among them are girls. they are being called Fujoshi. one of my friends is a completely fujoshi. she always likes to recommend gay love novels to us. some of my classmates think she is crazy and irregular, or nuts. well, to me, it's ok. 
so is gay love novel popular in your corntry? and what's your attitude towards it?
btw, english is the second language for me, i don't know the exact phrase to describe gay love novel.

hehe... i love reading novels, a good way to spend boring time. few men like reading bl novel. it's just popular in girls. and always the author is girl.
