What do you think of the computerization process of the May 2010 election?

It's about 4 months to go before the 2010 election. This is the first time that the election process in the Philippines will be automated. Does the government ready to face the consequences that may arises during the day of the election? Will all the people be able to understand the process? Will it minimize error in counting and declare the true winning candidates? What about you, how do you foresee the upcoming event, and do you think it will be the first clean and honest election ever?

i don't think it's going to be without any problems. i mean, it is the first time and they haven't started training the people who will be in-charged yet. the schedule they set have not been followed.

That's the truth in it, everything that has been scheduled was not followed. I also think about the possibility of there must be a lot of problems arising for this automation process. The question there, does our government especially the commission on election ready to face the problems? Do they have the a solutions in case that kind of problem will occur? Well, all of these will be answered on May 10, 2010. We just hope and pray that everyone must not sell their votes.

@ anyabee.. in our world today.. we who are looking out for whats best for the country are the only ones left who care.. they dont.. all they care about now is money, power and publicity... even if we vote for the right person, some people wont..in order to change this type of life we live in, we have to start ourselves among our friends and let the word spread..

i think it would be best to have that kind of election.. in my opinion, it could lessen the exchanging of ballots... lets say for example, with the recent ampatuan cases, there was a recovered ballot box that contains the right votes which was replaced with a ballot box which contains most votes for a certain candidate.. it would be best if elections were automated so that there could be less cheating involved.. people nowadays are obsessed with power.. instead of voting for the right candidate, they choose to run for presidency themselves.. what is happening to our country? i mean there are a lot of presidential candidates.. whoa!.. im not surprised if in the next election, no one will run for senator and all will run for president.. lol.. have a nice day.. It might be possible that computerization will lessen the probability of error in counting or exchanging ballots but remember computer programs are made by man so it is possible that it can be manipulated also which I hope and pray not to happen to our country. I hope a true, honest, Go-fearing and sincere leader will win this election because our future as a community depends to the persons who will ruled over us. Thanks for the idea you shared.

hello there.. i really hope so too.. our country URGENTLY needs a CAPABLE leader.. we dont need one of 'em actors or corrupt people again.. we need educated, well-equipped, responsible and nationalistic leader who can really let us rise up to formally claim our rightful place as one of the greats of the world and not one of the worsts.. currently we are a feared country because of what happened to maguindanao.. and i hope the next leaders can change that and bring justice and peace to our country.. Hi there fellow Filipinos! ^_^ it's good to see you here :) anyway, I'm not really quite sure if we are ready for that kind of election but i think it's a very good idea. however, there has a lot to be done. they should already start teaching or demonstrating how to use this because although a lot of Filipinos are educated, there are still those who are not so fortunate to have undergone any education thus making this hard for them to understand. Especially those who come from very remote areas where electronics are very rare. How do you expect them to understand what they're doing. right? But i still have faith that everything will go right this election. A lot of Filipinos have been praying and still are praying for the elections this May 2010. I would like to encourage all of you to join us in praying for our beloved nation :) There is power in prayer! :) Let's pray that no work of the enemy will prosper and that a righteous man will be placed in office. We need someone who fears the Lord and has the fear to do evil things. :) God bless the Philippines!

Yes all we need to do as a citizen of this country is to pray that an honest election will be achieved, that the right leader will be chosen and be true to his promises. I hope that everyone will be wise enough when choosing the right person for the position.

hey this is nice to listen the application of technology into the field of democratic participation..but this reply is in the experience of indian general election 2009..as the electronic voting machine is created by humans that can also be manipulated by those humans very easily..country wide protest and debate regarding this in india had been taken place and are unending also..many western countries those implemented earlier also went back to ballot system again..nice to see the democratic processes in philippines..but don't close your eyes regarding the manipulation in the process of computerization in the name of erroneous ballot system which can witness the correction very properly if a vigil eye looks at incessantly...all the best !!!

Yes you're true that ballot system of election process is still the best way of declaring the true leader but the problem is that some candidates have a greater chance of manipulating it as we have experience in the country, wherein some candidates will create ballots written on it their names and change the one in the presinct and many other ways of dishonesty. I hope this automation process will give the correct results and will give a fast and peaceful election in the country.

Its about time to automate our election, well the intention is that to provide honest, good and peaceful election, things like what had been experienced in the other country particularly in the time of election. Its about time to implement it.All we have to do is to educate Filipino citizens with the new system that we have. This system as it is the first time to be used here might caused some problems...but that would be normal for our first. The government should implement information drive to educate voters and establish information areas and post in the venues and time of election. Proper training to the implementors of these automated election is also highly recommended

Of course we should not stick to an old way of running our election. We are already in the 21st century, everything now are run by automation. We should not be left behind. But my comment to the situation (i hope there are no hidden agenda, purpose behind) because this election is the highest or a national election where we choose our highest leader in the country? Why not try the automation process to a local election where the scope is smaller? Just to test that automation is really a dependable way of having an honest election! I just hope that this first time usage of automation will be a successful one. It might have problems but can be manage and not really that destructive which will cause the total stopage of election.

I think it will be not easier as the government is not yet 100% ready for this one... Machines are coming one by one, yes.. but this does not guaranteed everything will go right. ofcourse, this will be the first, but this does not ana excuse to have errors or something like that. because the future of our country lies in this election. we cannot be assured of a clean election through this automation. but at least some elemental forces that can cause unhonest elections may be cancelled out. we should pray for a clean one... Filipino must be wiser this time, choose a leader who is not after fame or money or power... have a great day ahead.

Thanks for sharing your ideas. Anyway, it may not be as 100% perfect but at least it can minimize some election dishonesty among candidates especially in hot spot areas. I hope that there will be no bloody incidents to happen. I hope Filipinos will be vigilant enough not to sell their votes to a candidate not deserving to win.

The COMELEC is behind schedule, they readily admitted it. The teachers and other concerns are not yet trained. I just hope it will be realized after all, the govt. already spent millions or maybe billion already. I dont think there is such honest election. maybe more of it would lessen and expensive for the cheaters this time. The COMELEC is definitely running out of time. Goodluck to all of us!

Let's us see the responds of the Filipino. For the first time our election will be automated I think the only problem that we going to face is how to find our precinct. According to the information I watched on TV the 5 precinct will be combined into. I'm looking forward for this automation and if it can't really prevent the cheating.

Automated election is much faster and efficient of course in terms of counting the votes of candidates than manual election. The results will be much quicker than previous elections. I understand that instead of writing the names of the candidates we will instead shade the box or circle opposite the candidates we'll select which is much easier and faster. I hope so that the next election will be clean and honest, let's just be vigilant.
