Do you simply want 'visitors', or loyal 'fans' for your site? If you simply want traffic, then signup for traffic exchange. That would get you 10s of ks of visitors immediately. Otherwise, expect to actively work on your site for something like 3yrs... That's assuming your site content is unique and also worth a look.
