earn money from blogs

My wife and I are planning on making a blog site about cooking and makeups and a friend of mine told me that I could earn a lot of money if we're serious in out blog. I was like, "what?" And the words 'money' and 'blog' ran through my head a dozen times.
How is this possible? Pointers and suggestions will be very much appreciated.

Yes. Making money from your blog is really possible.. Others earn $100 a month or upto thousands of dollars like mashable.com and problogger.net.
