Today one can view the solar eclipse that is going to occur within few hours from now. We have some restrictions during solar eclipse in South India among some people, who do not have food and fast till the eclipse is totally over. They have a bath, as soon as the sky is clear and start the day afresh. Do you also follow any rules during the Eclipse? Pl do share your views. Have a good day.

Hi yogambal, There are some myths about the eclipse and the followers of the same are villagers. I remember there was a solar eclipse when I was a kid and in our place all of them stayed indoors. We were at home like house arrest till the eclipse ended. Foods prepared and eaten before starting the eclipse and the left over food thrown away, yes the belief was the food is getting poison after the eclipse. The reason for not allowing going out from house, if we look at the sun with naked eyes there is a chance to lose our eye sight. So nobody wants to take a chance. This is the story of my childhood. Once I grown up no longer believing all these and there is no scientific proof for the same. Regarding the vision is true and all others are myths only.

I have heard about the restrictions regarding eclipse. I don't belive in any of those. Also, I have never followed any of those in my life. I don't think there is a scientific fact in that. My company won't give me leave because it is eclipse. So, I need to take bath to go to work eventhough it is eclipse.

Only rule I know of is don't look directly at it. But thats just because it's still the sun and can still do damage to your eyes. I'm still suprised how in a modern world though that there are still so many superstitions about eclipses. It's just a big shadow.
