Haiti, as it is is getting a lot of international relief as a result of their tragedy? But, we all know even before todat, Haiti is an impoverish state, how many of the countriesd guninely help them without any apparent interest attached to it.. The USA, Europe and maybe Japan... Thus, all the relief help now, is it genuine or the nations are just trying to polish their image as world hlpers? What do you think

Very good point and very good question. I do believe that there are people that are truly helping to help. But I think most of this is "look what I am doing for these poor people". Obama announced repeatedly everything HE is doing for Haiti - hey idiot thats MY money your playing fast and loose with. We (US) have always helped after disasters such as this but Presidents haven't felt the need to list everything for your admiration. I think this is such a publicity issue - Haiti was in bad shape BEFORE the earthquake. I know this sounds insensitive and almost Robertson -like but maybe God is cleaning up a mess. The president "palace" has crumbled! hhmmm maybe thats a statement?

Many a time, people try to make statements of intent, by way of actions when it comes to international politics. I found this distatseful and dificult.... to take.

For the president to point out what we are doing step by step is a good thing. We have hundreds of thousand of Haittian Americans living right here in the United States it is to reassure them that we are doing everything possible for their families. If God was cleaning up a mess do you honestly believe he would have taken the lives of so many innocent people? Oh and it doesnt sound almost sound like a Robertson remark it is definately a Robertson remark. This just stops the questions of what are you doing. He laid it all out front and the American people know exactly what is going on and what we are doing to help.

Masay, even long before the earthquake, my nation poured BILLIONS of dollars in to Haiti, BILLIONS. And thats not even beginning to touch all the private charities and groups here in the U.S. that are and have been down there for years trying to help these people. Most of it was squandered by a corrupt Haitian government while it's people were left by them to live in squalor and poverty. Left to live and work in poorly built buildings, with no building or safety codes, allowing for the vast damage we saw after the quake. Left with no infastructure to help after the quake. Let me ask this, how much has Gambia given them? How much has Gambia done before the quake to prop up the government and eliminate the corruption there? I saw your critisism in a few comments you came back to make to some responders. Before you critisze other nations, you best be looking at your own nation and see what it is...or isn't doing to help out down there. To paraphrase a recent presidential speech here on domestic matters, if someone is cleaning up a mess, you don't sit back and tell them they are holding the mop wrong, get off your asss and grab a mop.
