Why do KungFu Masters fly?

I don't think that Kungfu Masters can fly: the movies make them fly. They can jum easily at a higher level without a pre-speed because they had an intensive excercise

i'd like to know, is this stuff based on chinese literature or just started as a brilliant idea of a filmmaker in early 1900s when motion picture took off?
