Searching through discussions in myLot

I was thinking of starting a particular discussion but then I realized that there may actually be an existing discussion revolving around it. However, there was no way to find if there actually are any. Does anyone know how to search or sort through discussions using keywords only? If you go by interest, you still have to go through pages upon pages of listed discussions. The search bar at the top right of the myLot page is a Web search bar and not a search from within MyLot only. Do you search myLot first before posting a discussion? Isn't it a no-no to post duplicate discussions?
