What is Affliate Marketing?????

Friends , i want to make very extra money from twitter like $1000 per month. But someone told me that it is only possible with the help of AFFLIATE MARKETING on twitter. But still i donno the meaning of AFFLIATE MARKETING and the process involved in it ?
Can anyone please help me in it and explain me Affliate Marketing ?????
