Students for Life

There is so much in this world to learn that we can never hope to learn everything in a lifetime. However, we have the choice to learn or not to learn. Each of us is but a small speck in the big picture. But, whatever we do, be it good or bad, affects the entire world population, more than we can imagine. Think of an aching tooth. Does it make one enthusiastic about going to school or to work? I wouldn't think so. It is not only the mouth that suffers, the whole person feels the pain and discomfort. Whether we like it or not, we are social animals. We owe it to ourselves, to the people around us and to the world, of which we are vital components, to learn about life. It is a fact that as human beings, we are endowed with the most highly developed brains. Along with this and among other positive attributes, we have hands. Each hand has 4 fingers and a thumb. Think of how limited we would have been without the thumb. To become productive and worthwhile assets to society, why not use our potentials to be students for life!

Very true words and very well expressed. Nature abhors a vacuum and yet many human beings try to live in a vacuum, doing what is necessary and lazing away the rest of life. I once read that even the most intelligent people who have lived have only made use of a tiny percentage of their brain capacity. How sad to have potential to achieve great things and yet not fulfill them. When I think of some of the amazing things I've been able to do, I am filled with wonder - and yet I also think, "But why did I stop there? Why haven't I done more?" We should never stop learning and we should never stop DOING - putting our learning to good use.

Thanks for your response, cloudwatcher! But we're only human and our human nature tends to override our intellect. Yes, we should "never stop learning and doing." However we have the tendency to laze away sometimes, forgetting that there's more to do and learn. Self-discipline is what we need to learn more and use the knowledge that we gain to benefit ourselves, the people in our lives and the world in general. Have a great day, cloudwatcher.
