How Did You File Your Taxes This Year?

I know everyone has not filed taxes yet, but if you did, how did you do it? Did you do it yourself or have a tax company do it? This year I decided to try to do mine online, because I am single and live alone, and have no deductions or anything. I figured to go to a tax place this year would not benefit me, because after they take out the fee it would leave me with alot less money. I went to the IRS website and found many good websites that you can file your taxes. I chose OLT. Well it was supposed to be so simple, ya right I ran into a few problems, which I hope all said and done with have taken care of. For the most part the site was okay, but at times really ran slow. The price was not bad though. I paid $15.90 for both Federal and state tax. I paid it through paypal, but had the option of paying out of my tax return. So how did you, or how do you plan on filing your tax return?

I plan on filing mine through Turbo Tax. I've been doing this since about 2003. I used to do my own since this neighbor taught me when I was in grade school. But you get your money quicker when you do it online. I'll do my state return separately and not pay the fee. So I don't pay anything. Because of some new state law, we won't be getting our forms until March.

I notice a lot of people are using Turbo tax software now. I used OLT, guess it really does not matter because I really don't have anything to claim anymore.

Oh, I forgot to say that I didn't get my other w-2 form yet. As soon as I get it though, I'm good to go for the Federal because I need the money badly.

I have not filed my taxes yet. I have been working on them. I am single and live alone, too. I don't have to worry about taking my taxes in and having someone do them. I do them myself and have a friend check them over before I send them in. I will send my returns in the mail like I alsways do.

Does it take very long to send it by mail? It has been so long i can't remember. I remember having to do that years ago, and waiting forever to get my check.

I got my taxes done as of yesterday. I will send them out by 2/1/10. When you send them in early you get them back quicker. Usually in a month.

I am still waiting to get all my stuff so that I can file, but my husband does all our taxes online and he is darn good at it. I hope to get a good enough return to pay off some of my two new Macs and enough to save a little for my tuition when I can get a chance to go back to school.

We usually use Turbo Tax, we have for a few years so its nice to have all our information already stored. I think I've done it so many different ways I can't count. The main thing is to do them no matter the method.

This is the first year I have done them online, it was easy because I have nothing extra to claim. And it was not worth paying a tax person.

I normally use turbo tax fedral eddition to do it. The w2 hasn't come yet, and I'm hoping it does soon. But I like to file as soon as it comes in. When I file, the program helps me walk through everything and keeps all my information handy so I don't have to re-enter anything. I simply have to re-enter the w2 part, and then I am done for the most part.

Ya I am hearing how good Turbo Tax is. OLT will keep all my info as well for next year, so I am happy.

Haven't filed our taxes yet, can't until the end of February where I live. But I can tell you I always use an accountant. Our taxes are a bit more complicated with having a home based business so it really helps to have someone make sure we cross all t's and dot all the i's. Better to be safe than sorry.

Oh yes I can understand that. Especially making sure you get as much back as possible.

I always use Taxact.com, it really is simple and free for Federal, then for the State taxes I use the paper form, because they charge for the State. The State is easier anyhow. We have 3 exemptions, interest and other funds and it is still easy. This year might be different. I worked without taxes being with-held so I will have more forms to fill out and am hoping it will be just as easy and we have a child in college, so that will make it different, also. Fingers crossed.

I am from the Philippines. Actually, I don't have problems with regards to paying for my taxes because it is actually debited already from my paychecks. So I don't have any hassles with it...

I have a tax preparation agency that I use every year. I know there is a cost but at least I have the confidence that I did not do something wrong on them. I still get a decent refund back after they take their fees.

That is good. Do you have dependents so you make extra money? Because I have none, and I don't get hardly anything back. That is why I did it online.
