in a broadband connection, you have to enter the server ip in the tcp/ip prtocool well, ive never used linux so i dont know where to enter it, but in windows you enter those ip's in the Local are connection (your lan card) if you are wondering what ip you should key in, contact your ISP

I have never used Ubuntu for my operating system. But I think you should take a look at control panel. I am pretty sure that you can find the solver there. Is your connection wireless. I often encountered the same problem when I am trying to connect to wireless connection. But at windows vista, I am offered an immediate solving problem if I'm encountered to such problems. Well, sometimes it works but another time it doesn't.
