I think I remember them telling me that your first labor is usually the longest. I think they tell you to expect it to be 8-10 hours. I'm not sure where they start timing it though. With my first one I started getting cramps at 1am. I went to the hospital in the morning when I couldn't take it anymore. I was 4 cm when I got in there. I had my daughter at 5pm. From the time i went in till I had her was about 8 hours. With my second one it worked about the same number of hours. With my son I had to be induced.

in my first child, the water broke at 3pm...then i was rushed to the hospital at 330pm then off to the emergency room at 4pm. after all the necessary checkups and all I was in the Labor room at 5pm. then I was called for an emergency cesarean section at 11am(the following day) when the baby was already swallowing its own poop. so yeah, after all these time my cervix didn't expand only 2cm...my kid has its cord coiled around his neck twice. he's the only baby in the nursery who has an IV on his wrist because of the amount of feces he swallowed. 4 years after his alive and so energetic. ^^ looking at him always reminds me of how painful i've been through when i had him. thanks for responding. ^^

that must be painful! My mom had labours for my only brother in almost 10 hours, and it's a premature one. however, he was as healthy as other kids! doctors were surprised to see him so big for a premature baby. It's amazing how mothers can endure long pains just to give birth to us ~
