Hide money from your family, just to make them small surprises?

hello ice, i think i will keep them in the bank, no matter how small and then when it grows that is the time i buy the present. that would surprise them. but your hiding it in some books or kitchen cupboard.. well, unless it is only you in the house and no one gets to find out the hiding place, then i guess it is okay. but if you lose it there.. then it is you who get the surprise. cheers, ann

I have hidden money in books, like you said, but I always remember it and spend it instead of saving it. I've found the best place to hide money, if you want to keep someone else from finding it, is to find a hidden place in your wallet or purse where you don't keep your spending money. That way (hopefully!) no one else will see it, you aren't being reminded of it everytime you spend your money, yet it's there if you really need it.

Hey icesmile! I do hide money from myself sometimes and then forget where I hid it! I did that awhile ago in a little jewelry box! I found $20 that I had forgotten about! I wish that I would forget about more money that I have hidden, but I am not that lucky! I used to hide money in a sock for emergencies, but I used it and never put it back! Now I have about $80 hidden in a box with my sneakers for emergencies and I refuse to go near it no matter what! If I keep using the emergency money I will never have it if I really need it so I am staying away from it!

maybe you should consider a savings account at a bank.... my great uncle would hide money in mayonaise & in coffee cans. i wouldnt advise this, as it isnt very sanitary. lol booksafes are another good option if you like to hide money around the house. really you should just pick one hiding spot and stick to it. then you wouldnt forget where u put it.
