Do rabbits make sound?

Hey everyone, it might be a stupid question, but me and my friends had a discussion on that topic yesterday. One of them claimed, that he has heard a rabbit emitting some really loud noise! He said that his dog has bitten one of his rabbits and it started to make a loud sound. I don't know, was it kind of howling or roaring or what, but he said he couldn't describe the sound, as it was something unusual and indescribable. I thought that my friend is just lying, but then I started to think, that perhaps rabbits can really emit loud sounds. I have one as a pet too, but he never had done anything like that. Perhaps it's because he has never been bitten by a dog? So, what do you think? Have you ever heard rabbits making loud noise? Or is it just a myth?

We have 2 pet rabbits in the house. Blackie is very quiet. Never makes a sound. However Patches makes up for it. He is a very noisy rabbit. He "GRUNTS" everytime we pet him. Sometimes he sounds like a pig grunting. Especially if he gets a treat. He also likes to chase the cat!!! Another sound he makes is 'squeeks'. He also makes a lot of growls. but he has never bit us. He is just a noisy rabbit!

Patches loves to chase the cat and is convinced that the cat is scarred of him. He would never make it outdoors since he is such a brave bunny. He does jump at us...he wants his treats. He is my husbands rabbit and will come to a whistle. He stays close to our feet if we are eating ready to scarf up any crumbs..chocolate anything is his favorite! Loves M&M candies and comes running when he hears the bag. Had to put my candy dish up cause he was trying to get into it. He is more intertaining then the tv at times!

Hello fjaril. Just met you! Yes we have regular entertainment with the rabbits. If we are walking around eating something, Patches is at our feet ready to "eat" all droppings. I have learned not to hold a sandwich or cookie down to my side because he will come and take it out of my hand! Once I was eating a peanut butter sandwhich and sitting on the footstool talking to someone and had held my sandwhich down and he jumped up and took it! We laughed at him! He will become the original Easter Rabbit...his favorite is chocolate! Don't recommend anyone give their rabbit chocolate, it gives him diareha!!!!! Right now he is on a No Chocolate diet again! Sneaky little creature. Probley your dog and rabbit will never get along our cats are fine with the rabbit. Sometimes they 'cuff' him but most of the time they leave them alone and run from them.

Wow, one of your rabbits seems to be a really talky bunny! The fact that your rabbit likes to chase the cat is also surprising for me! My rabbit only likes to chase my mother, they often chase each-other. My bunny also does that grunting sound, but only if he is irritated. For example when he is very hungry and we try to put some food into his bowl, he grunts and attacks the hand. Well, it's not actually a violent attack, he doesn't bite me or anything, he just wants to make sure that I am not taking the food away from him. My rabbit hadn't ever bitten me too! Thanks for sharing your experiences!:)

My rabbit just mumbles too most of the time. He has never bitten me (at least not intentionally), even when he gets mad at me. He just stomps he hind legs or tries to chase me away biting my clothes, but not me. I think my rabbit has never liked showering, because he is quite afraid when taken to a bath. Thanks for responding!:)

You've obviously have never been rabbit hunting where one got wounded. They'll scream something terrible.

You're right, I'm not kind of hunter or something. But I guess everybody would scream if they would have a chance to taste a bullet in their flesh Thanks for answering!:)

This is a very interesting topic. I raised the rabbits at home in the past. I have to say that rabbits are very silent. Actually I haven't heard of the sounds from my rabbits yet. I love China

I know for a fact that they do. My Dad raised rabbits when I was a kid. We ate alot of domestic rabbits. They usually make noise if they are really scared or hurt. The babies cry when they are hungry. Wild rabbits also make noise for the same reasons. It is a terrible sound.

Wow, I've never seen a rabbit baby. If the rabbit's scream is really something terrible, then I'm glad that they're such quiet animals! Thanks for sharing!:)

Well no they don't make loud noises I mean I have never heard Cinnamon make any. That's my rabbit so yeah Cinnamon has never done that it's quiet. I think every rabbit is quiet it's just the way they are they are very peaceful animals that's why I like them a lot.

Cinnamon is a nice name! Do you call it "Cinny-Cinny-Cinny?" I agree, rabbits are quite peaceful and quiet animals, they don't make very much trouble, except gnawing the furniture or doing "that dirty thing" on the coach or floor. My rabbit does pee on the coach, but it happens quite rarely. Thanks for responding!:)

they scream when absolutely terrified or hurt. being bitten by a dog would do that. when fairly scared they thump their hind legs, this is a warning to other rabbits. however most of the time they are pretty quiet - you probably won't hear a pet rabbit do either.

My rabbit also thumps his hind legs when angry. It usually happens when I catch him to hold him in my hands. After I put him down, he thumps his feet angrily and sometimes sobs very silently. But yes, I agree, most of the time the only sound you can hear is when rabbit runs around or eats. Thanks for responding!;)

~ Hi there! I raise rabbits, well actually my grand mother and my parents, but when I was younger and still lived by my parents I also helped them! So I can tell you that rabbits are definitely making sounds, it is something like chirping, when they are scared from something or when they make that thing, I believe you all know what I am talking about. So from now on you will know that rabbits do make sounds! ~
