Is Shakespeare still relevant today especially in this era of isms like poststructuralism, postcolonialism, postmodernism? don't you think critical theories are superceding the place of the classics?

I don't know what “critical theories” are. But Shakespeare is definitely relevant today. Like President Thomas Jefferson, though they both lived centuries ago, people from everywhere borrow their quotes and apply them to life as it is today. Their sayings reflect wisdom.

Shakespeare is still relevant, because he was a great observer of and commentator on the human condition. The joys, sorrows and problems he wrote about 400 years ago still affect us today. Theories will never replace the classics, because the classics are vibrant and vital. Theories come from the head, but the great classics are written from the heart, and it shows.

Well, since post-modernism is just relativism, Shakespeare is modern in comparison! Shakespeare's relevance is due to his plays expounding many common and universal themes of the human condition all the bes urban
