How long do cats live?

My boyfriends daughter has a cat, unfortunately it is a house cat though it stays in her room. I am very allergic to cats and cat hair, which makes me constantly wonder when this thing will die! I know it's awful!! We plan to move in the summer and i am just curious how long i must live with the darn thing. How long do cats live this one is 10!???

As I know, and I think I know it well, because my other cousin is a vet., the cats live about 15-20 years, but it depends very much on that, how will it live and where- if the cat will live in a flat or in house on the yard, because there are many factors, which affects on its life expectancy. It also depends on that, how much it eats per day, because the very fat cats don't live too long, just like the humans, because it is harmful for the heart.

How old is the cat now? I didn't know cat's life span is so long, I always thought it's about the same as dogs. Perhaps you can talk to your boyfriend's daughter and see if she can just keep the cat in her room, but not running around the house, so you may not get sick of the cat.

Well, 15 to 20+ years is not unheard of for a healthy cat.
They have some shampoo's or even some mousse type products that you (or someone else) can apply to the cats coat that will reduce the dander.. the allergies are actually caused by the skin dander.
If not, there is always Claritin, or Benedryl.. lol :-)
