My Eyes Have Gone Worse But No Money For A Test

Is anyone else in the same situation as me? I wear glasses and in the last 5 years or so have started wearing them all the time. The only respite I had was on my wedding day lol. Anyway, just lately I have noticed that anything close up (like if I nuzzle the cat for instance) is becoming more blurry...and I've also got to double-check my posts on here for errors. It is so frustrating not having money for something as basic as an Eye Test. Then there's the added expense of the lenses (or maybe even new glasses as I've had these a long time) or contact lenses lol. No wonder I'm ratty with my bad eyes. Haha!

Hi Janey1966. I can understand your concern. I had to get me a new pair of eyeglasses about two weeks ago. In January I had an eye examination.. Medicaid paid this for me. I have not seen an eye doctor in three years. So, I finally went this year. My old glasses was very broken. The handle came off of it. It was the right handle. I had to put electrical tape and a rubber band on it to hold it securely. It was so crazy. This time, all I had to do was pay for my high power which was $21.60. When I went to my other eye doctor three years ago, I had to pay over $180.00 for my glasses, that fee came out of my own pocket. So, I no longer go to this eye doctor anymore. They are too expensive and they get my lenses from another manufacturer. That is why my lenses have been costing me so much of money. My eyes must have gotten worse during the last three years because my vision seems like it was before. I wonder how much my eyes have changed. I know how you feel. I had needed me a new pair of glasses for the longest. I was wearing glasses for three years, because I could not afford to get a new pair. I told the new eye doctor that I did not have any money to pay for my glasses. So, I ended up getting glasses that my insurance covered. I was glad to pay that small fee instead of a large fee, which I could not afford at all. I hope that you get a new pair of glasses really soon. I know how hard it is not be able to see without having your glasses. It is no fun at all.

I'm so sorry to hear of your plight. It really is awful when I know that I can't see as well but I can't do anything about it at the moment. My Mum used to be in Medicash as her glasses cost a lot of money, then she can claim back some of the money she has had to fork out herself. I'm not sure if she is in it anymore. In any case, I would have to be working in order to qualify and, of course, I am not.

You just posted that you were of a certain age... Well, those of us at that or have passed that certain age will tell you that your eyes CHANGE. If you take your glasses off, you may find that you see close up better than you do with them on. Not to say that you don't need glasses for close up, but it may be time for those dreaded bifocals! What happens is that your previous glasses may still be good for distance, but the muscles are losing their flexibility to focus close up with them on. Take them off and see if you can see close up better, then go to the store and check out "reading" glasses, cheaper than going to the eye doc until you can't put it off any longer.

It's actually worse when I take my glasses off, so they are still working but - perhaps not as well as they used to. There's no way I could see the computer screen without my glasses (and it's been like that for years) it's just that I started wearing my present specs all the time because they looked better than my previous ones that I didn't wear all the time. Hope all this makes sense! Mum has varifocals which are similar to bifocal lenses but they don't make her eyes look three times as big lol. I have had reading glasses prescribed (wrongly) to me before and I was most upset about it as I never got my money back. Anyway, "it'll all come out in the wash" lol.

is there any sort of agency that will pay for your test? here where i am in Ontario (Canada) you have to be able to prove that you have no money/low income/whatever and there are agencies that will pay for you.

I sometimes go longer than I should to save the expense, so does my husband. If you wore glasses before, once you get into reading glasses territory, it can get really frustrating. Your regular prescription is fine but the reading glasses aren't or vice versa. I actually read with my glasses off most of the time, seems to work better for me...

It's definitely true that money is of the essence. We really need money in order to live. We have to have it in order to stay healthy and protect ourselves from illnesses. That is actually my main purpose now why I already saves money so that I have something to get whenever I will suffer something.

I know what you mean. Trouble is, whenever I have worked I've always had to save up for other things. There was never enough money to go round so now that I'm not working I have none...if that makes sense! You are right, we cannot live without money, unfortunately.

I'm kind the same as you! Here American do eye test is experise, but you must to do it, and ware the porpriety glass will help you a lot! When I was in high school, for 3 years I wear the same glass, and even it did't fit anymore, and my sight just become worse and worse. When I change the glass to what I porpriety, the situation changed, sight of my eye just stable not become worse. So I think even it is a lot money you should check you eye, and I saw some store have discount, you can buy a glass and have eye exam free, you should try it! Eyes are so important to us, and let them relax when them tell you they were tired! And do some eye massage when you remember it! Bless for you!

Thank for your response, it is much appreciated. Yes, you are right, I really should get my eyes checked out. If I was working I bet they'd be ok lol.

Doesn't the National Health cover eye tests? Or is it like the Ontario provincial plan, and only cover certain cases? Anyway, you could always try out the dollar store reading glasses (or in your case, I guess it'd be pound shop). Even though I wear prescription bifocals, when I'm doing my needlework I slip on a pair of them over my regular glasses. It helps.

You are right, the National Health does not provide free eye tests. I think they do for children and people on certain benefits but for the likes of me..no I can't get my eyes tested for nothing. What I plan to do is get some money together for the test itself and keep hold of the prescription for when I start a job. Then I can buy new specs. Whenever that will be lol.

Hi, I am 41 this year. Recently, I noticed that I cannot read the papers even with my glasses on, the words just look blur. I have to take them off and read the papers in comfort. I have been wearing glasses since high school and I have very high degrees. When I went to the optometrist, I got a shock because my degrees had gone down by 300. I wonder why, maybe I eat too much carrot? I will cut carrots into small bite size and take them as snacks. Anyway, I am happy. Well, here in my country, there is a price range for ordering the glasses. So, I chose a cheap and affordable one. Nothing fancy just for my everyday use.

I think you should take care of your eyes.when you have not things to do you should put you glasses off.and take some exercises, seeing outside let your eyes relex.
