I am attempting to cook a whole chicken in the slow cooker today. How long should i cook it for? This will be my first attempt. I want to start using my slow cooker more since i'm not around in the evening to cook meals. And my husband is useless in the kitchen so everyone pretty much starves until I get home. lol. Share all your great slow cooker recipes with.

make 4 small balls of foil and smoosh them a lil bit set the chicken on the balls of foil. Season your chicken the way you do as you would bake it normally in the oven. It depends on the chicken & the setting fo your particular crock as to how fast things go. Will the chicken be: frozen? stuffed? prestuffed & frozen? and size? Usually I'd say if you cook it on high it's falling appart done in 6-8 hrs maybe less. I honestly don't pay attention cause I'm usually home and I lower the temp if it seem done earlier than I'd like

I've never done a whole chicken but I love to use my slowcooker! Try this recipe: put carrots, green pepper, and onion (all chopped) into the bottom of your slow cooker. Put in the chicken pieces. Drain some pineapple (save the juiice) and put it over top of the chicken. Into the pineapple juice add 1/3c brown sugar, 2T soy sauce, 2T vinegar, 1tsp sesame oil, 1/2 tsp each salt, ground ginger, garlic powder and 3T cornstarch, and 1/4c water. Pour it over the chicken and cook on low for 8-9 hours. If I'm home I take the chicken out after 6 hours and turn the slow cooker up to high to thicken the sauce. That takes a bit of time. Then add back the chicken to rewarm it. Serve over rice. This one is tasty but doesn't have the gooey sweetness of chinese food from a restaurant.
