Hero or villain?

Many people believe Gandhi was not as brilliant as people credit him to be. They blame him for the partition of India and the execution of Bhagat Singh. They feel behind the guise of a peace loving figure was a much more arrogant and complicated man. What ever it may be he was a very foresighted, diplomatic and if you may, a cunning man who unified a struggle that was very much a mafia war between a pimp and a drug lord. No one can question the degree to which he played a role in bringing the country together in a way no one else had. What do you feel? Hero or villain?

He was a leader. A leader is one who believes in some philosophy and follows it to achieve the goals. And people who believe in him and his philosophy become followers because they too want to achieve the same thing what he want to achieve. Gandhi was such a leader. A leader who was firm in his beliefs and followed them no matter what he faced. You cannot find such people easily. People change when things start getting tough. So Gandhi's philosophy too had some weaknesses and others highlight them and brand him for the causes or failures that have happened in the past. But in reality it is not possible for all people to follow his philosophy. Einstein once famously said, "The future generation will wonder ever a man like Gandhi walked on this earth in flesh and blood" It means, his philosophy was idealistic and difficult for many to follow or understand or even practice in day to day life. Every hero can be a villain to some people. So some people brand Gandhi as villain. But I can say with conviction that he didn't do anything deliberately. He didn't support Bhagat Singh because what he did was simply aganist to Gandhi's Non-Violence philosophy. He cannot stick to Non-Violence and the same time support Bhagat Singh. And he was also against the partition of India but some vested interest weren't ready to listen to him. He was a leader of par excellence who united such a diversified India into a single platform and carried out the freedom struggle against the British. So he was a leader and of course a hero and of course a villain for some! Happy Mylotting!

Well put. I couldn't agree more. Gandhi was a man of few words. He was a man with a very firm conviction. He was willing to go to any extent to stand by his principles.

Well thats the common feeling of all, as he is the cause for partition. But i feel he is not to be blamed, even if he didnt partition, someelse would have done. So he is a hero only.

I think he was a brilliant man. Esspecially for the time he was living in. He did many good things for the people in his country. So i think we should give him all the credits.
