Do exams sufficiently grade you?

I have a friend. He passed his 10th exams with border percentage. We go to IIT,which is like an aptitude test testing how well you know the concept, coaching together and he is always in the top 10 rankers of the weekly IIT tests. What does this tell us about our education system? What changes do you think should be made to our education system to make it more functional?

Never. The exams can never grade a student properly. With a little change in the pattern we can make the grading better. One can get sufficiently high marks especially in schools just by by-hearting all that is taught in class. These do no good to anyone. IN schools less importance is given to conceptual learning. This system should change. The pattern should be made different.

I agree. Our pattern should be made more similar to that of the one US. It should be more practical. It would not only increase quality but also attract foreign students which would mean foreign inflow of income. What changes do you think should be brought about? What would make our system better?

High grades are not assurance to a successful future. I studied in a public school and there were 20 sections in a year level. I belonged to the cream of the top section and have seen a number of batch mates who belonged to the lower sections who are more financially successful than some of my classmates. It only goes to show that luck, hardwork and determination or will and work attitude work hand in hand when achieving one's dream and not good or high grades. Besides there are just students who are not good in exams but are good in managing just anything in the real world.

Intelligence can never be measured using an exam, specially the ones conducted currently. These exams only test the memorizing skill, whereas many other important aspects are left untouched. Our education system needs a lot of improvement. Emphasis must be laid on practical approach towards things and how the chapters that we are learning can be utilized in real life. As of now, it's just about scoring 99% marks and not about how much of that 99% has one actually understood and can use. I truly feel that since we have only one life, a good education system is important to make it fruitful.
