making it in the photography business

I am an experienced professional photographer, having shot over 300 weddings, worked in 4 photo studios, done assignments for magazines, newspapers, advertising agencies, you name it, I've done it. I left the field for a decade and now am trying to return to the vocation that I love so dearly, but it is a difficult and challenging task. I have a partner and we have been wearing our tails off to get work. I know that part of the problem is that we are working on a shoe string budget, but the competition is fierce out there, even if you are very good at what you do. Is there anyone out there with my background and skills who could give me advice on how to get a foothold once again. It sure was a lot easier in the '90's. At that time I turned a $1500 personal loan into a successful business, which I ran for about 5 years until I made some bad investments and some fatal business mistakes. Now I can't figure out how to get established again. Help.
