Oppositional Defiant Disorder - ODD I'm curious if anyone on myLot has a child who was diagnosed with ODD? I been doing my research on this disorder because recently the schools & myself have been wondering if my 7 year old might have this disorder. It's been a struggle for many years with my daughter & her behavior, but I just thought it was her being herself... well... being a snot & having some of her mom's (me) attitude. LOL! Last year I pulled her out of her school that she has been going to for a few years, hoping the new school would be better. I thought maybe she was just having a hard time with the teachers & clashing heads with them, but it seems things are going back down hill & she is back to being.... defiant! So this is like the second school that has whispered "ODD" in my ear... I did try to get her help last year, but I really didn't get any help from anyone. So as always, I just dealt with my child my own way.... Problem now is... it seems she is getting worse as she gets older... I just don't have it in me anymore. I have a 4 year old son with Autism & now I'm being told about some other disorder that my other child is showing signs in.... I have a hard time understanding this ODD, but everything I have read on, fits my daughter perfectly & now I'm nervous because I have heard some horror stories of children with ODD & how it can be a nightmare as they turn into teenagers... I thought things would be calmer as she got older, but I was wrong. Anyway, anyone out there on myLot have a child with ODD? The school is suppose to hook me up with some numbers & referrells Monday, so I can call around & get my daughter an appointment, so I'll be back in another discussion to duscuss that I'm sure. Here is a link on ODD just in case someone reading this has no clue what it is... http://www.aacap.org/cs/root/facts_for_families/children_with_oppositional_defiant_disorder

Hi Foxxee, I know that ODD is one of those many within the developmental disorder. It's better that you take her first to a developmental pediatrics for assessment so that you will be guided on how to deal with her at home and what type of intervention is appropriate with her in school. then everything will follow...therapies and other things needed to provide a positive and supportive environment for her. i have two sons with autism. they were given early intervention. it's really hard and very expensive sending them to special education school plus their therapies. now, my youngest son who is 9 years old is doing well in school for his mainstream program. he's now with the regualr class. my eldest who is ow 13 years is still in SPED and needs some more time for his speech therapy. he has communication problem but much better this time as he can now express what he wants than pointing on it. both of them are responding well in school academically and in their therapy.
