Hi everyone. My cousin and I are planning to go to Europe this coming summer and our parents have asked us to find out how we could have a cell phone with us without really having to pay killer roaming fees and without have to buy a pre-paid or satellite phone. I have my service with T-Mobile and my cousin has AT&T. Can someone help us cause we're not really sure how the international affairs work when it comes to cell phone use.

There is an option T-mobile has that will charge you one flat rate for using your phone outside of the US. So basically if you're out of T-mobile's calling area, you won't be charged for roaming for one thing, but if you make calls you would only have to pay a flat fee per-minute to make calls. Though since your phone is a US cell phone, you may not be charged at all for using your phone in another country. While I hate at&T they have a simular plan and usually don't bother to charge for roaming. Quite frankly though, I've got T-mobile and was only charged the international rate when I made a call to someone's mobile who happened to reside in the US Virgain islands. If what happened to me is true, you may not have any problem as long as you don't go over your aloted minute plan.

you can buy new sim card in the country which you are going to. calls from europe are cheaper than in USA.
