After the initial investigation of the luge accident that caused the death of a Georgia Olympic athlete, investigators found the cause of the accident to be human error not an issue with the track. I believe that the president of Georgia says it best with his response that human error in a sport should never result in death. Human error happens. That's in our nature. But shouldn't safety precautions be taken to ensure the safety of our athletes ever when they do make a mistake? I mean, the guy flew off the trck and hit a metal pole. Wouldn't you think they would pad any metal poles surrounding a track where the athletes come flying down at around a speed of 90mph? Several athletes, including the one who died, expressed concern before the accident about the safety of this track. Accidents do happen. These are high-speed dangerous sports and I understand that. But I am a little disgusted that they are putting the entire blame on the athlete and not asking themselves "What can we do to further ensure there safety when mistakes do happen?"
