Do you know which way can take care plant better?

Some plants' leaves are easily turn yellow, some people said it is owing to lose nutrient. Someone use egg shell to keep them. But it is unfortune that sometimes the way does not work, and these plants will died after they are leafless. Could you tell me which way can keep them better?
