Is there a way to disable facebook chat?

I have never been a fan of online chat- especially those on facebook and myspace. Even though I don't log in so much, I have found a way to disable the chat on myspace, on the account settings page. However, I'm on facebook much more frequently now and I haven't seen a similar feature on facebook. I really hate chatting with people on facebook, and I just don't want to be rude and log off every time someone tries to chat with me. ///w

I know what you mean. I asked my daughter the same question a couple days ago. I hated the chat feature as well. I the chat feature disable, and I love it.

When I'm on facebook I'm not on very long. Maybe an hour at most. Even though the chat is there I barely notice it and I don't get imed by anyone. Its easy to ignore, but like aim I did notice that you can go idel or invisable if you don't want to talk to anyone. But, since I don't pay that much attention I don't bother to disable nor have I looked for a way to disable it. Though if it would be anywhere I would think it would be in privicey settings.
