Shaving for competitive swimmers?

I'm a guy and I normally shave my legs before huge meets. I do get some questionable looks from people during gym in school as my legs are perfectly smooth. Why do people think this is weird if I'm just trying to be the best I can at something I love to do? If you are a swimmer do you shave for any of your meets? If you do, do you normally cut or add time? Does it actually do something or is it do something for you mentally?

Lemme say this, on my competitive team, we have annual "shave down parties". its cool, and thats what we swimmers do. keep on rolling and dropping times.
