Am I the crazy cat lady?

Hello fellow pet owners. I have 5 of the cutest, most adorablist little varmints ever, at least I think so. :D I talk to them all the time, I tell them how pretty their belly is when I am petting them and I mew back at them when they are talking. When one of them looks like they want to play, I chase them saying Momma's going to get you. They squeal with delight and run all over the place. Does anyone else talk to their pet, chase them through the house, bark, tweet, meow or whatever at your pet when they make noise? Tell me what you do with your animals for play.

Well, if you are the crazy cat lady that must make me a lunatic! I have 6 cats (and 2 dogs), and my critters all get along most of the time. Each one of my cats have a totally different personality. 2 of them are 'special needs' babies, with one that has asthma and needs treatments every day, and one that I adopted from a shelter where she had been taken from her home because the owners had tried to hang her. She now needs a special soft diet because she has difficulty swallowing anything solid. Would I give any of them up? NEVER! Do I regret taking them in? Not a chance! This is their forever home, and they are my 'kids'. I'm the Mom, and they all know it!

My gosh, people are so cruel to do that to a little animal. Poor thing. You are a great pet mom to take her and the others in and take care of them. Is your asthma cat taking an inhaler? If so how do you administer it? One of my babies has bronchial trouble, and I just hate it when I hear him struggling to breathe, but he has gotten better since it has warmed up a bit outside. He's an indoor cat, and I do not know how that makes any difference, but it does.

What a sweet cat. I cannot imagine Bootsie to come looking for me for medicine. He usually tries to hide! lol Yes, I did take him to the vet. His bronchial tubes show up on exray and the doc said that is not supposed to happen. I had him on steroids for a few months, and took him off to see how he would do. I just hate giving the steroid. It seems he is like he was when he was taking the meds the last few weeks I gave them to him. Of course I pay much more attention now to his sound. He does not seem to sound any worse than he did right now, and he is playing more than he did in Jan and Feb.

Yes, my guy uses an inhaler. he gets two different meds twice a day. Proventil and Albuterol! I have a device made by Aero-cat that has a little plastic piece that fits over his nose that is connected to a plastic tube about 5 inches long. The inhaler fits in the end of the tube. I just give it a shake, place the nose piece on him, and he breathes the medication in. He's been doing this for 3 years now, and he knows that he gets his treatment at 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.. If I'm not on the ball he comes looking for me! He gave us quite a scare when he started having the breathing problems...trips to the vets in the middle of the night for emergency care and What not..but I think it's pretty much under control now. All my kids are indoor animals, too. Have you taken yours to the vet concerning the breathing problems?

Hi there! I'm glad to see others who love animals as much as I do. Your cats must be so grateful to have you as a mommy rather than one of those "pet owners" who treats animals as if they are a hobby and not a living being. My husband and I have four cats and a bunny. We talk often to them. Three of our cats are very vocal, so we do the back-and-forth banter with them. "Meow!" "Oh, really?" "Meow!" "Now I don't know if I believe that...why would your brother do such a thing?" "Meow!" and so forth. We call the cats our children, because I couldn't be any closer to them had I given birth to them myself. My oldest, Thomas, loves to be sang to. Sometimes I'll cuddle with him and sing "You are my sunshine" and replace every sunshine with Thomas. He LOVES that song. He'll purr and purr and roll onto his back. My husband words third shift seven days on, seven days off, so on my husband's work week Thomas will sleep in his spot rather than on my feet, and sometimes we'll fall asleep together with my arm over him. He's my number one. Both of us play with them daily...we have little treat giving rituals that we've gained as a family. Every night all of us cram into one bed. Perhaps one day I'll be called a crazy cat lady, but I don't really care. I'd much rather feel this much love in one day while being called a crazy cat lady than be anything else.

Our rabbit, Dexter, sometimes is let loose so he can roam free, but the one problem with that is that one of our younger kitties, Johnny, has decided that him and Dexter would make nice children. So whenever Dexter's out I have to keep a close eye on everything so the poor rabbit won't get hurt. Your rabbit you had when you were younger and his insistence to follow you is adorable. I've had Dexter for a few months. Our oldest two cats are used to other animals, as they lived with me at my parent's house before we were married. We had lizards, other rodents, horses, dogs, chickens, etc., and the cats eventually learned not to pay any mind to other animals. I agree with you; it's very sad when I see people get animals "just for the children" and the only interaction they have with them is through the food bowl or the back door. I also get very creeped out when I go over someone's house and they have no animals. It's not right to me to see a house with no animals. Maybe it's because when I was first adopted into my family we had a dog, and then the animal count continued from there. Many people don't understand the relationships some have with animals. For me, animals are the only innocents of the world. They are the only creatures who are truly friends to you and will stick by you no matter what. They don't care if you tell them all your problems, they'll just listen and want to hear you talk more. It's very easy for me to grow a relationship with an animal, but it's very hard for me to trust a person completely because I've simply been used and taken for granted to many times. Animals don't do that to you.

I can just picture your Thomas rolling on the floor to that song. How cute! Is the rabbit out loose with all those felines around? I have heard of some cats or dogs taking to a rabbit as a friend, but usually it ends up badly. How long have you had the rabbit and cats together? I had a pet rabbit when I was younger. He used to follow us around the house, but poor little thing couldn't get up the stairs into our rooms but he sure would try! and sometimes he ended up stuck on the 2nd step. My first cat ever got pregnant and I helped her deliver the kittens, so I do feel very close to them like you do with your pets. She was so cute, following me all over the house that day. She did not want to be alone at all. Pets really do brighten up one's life, and it sounds like yours really help you to keep from being lonely when your hubby is gone. That is a very nice feeling, isn't it. It just drives me batty when people have pets and don't take time to play with them and enjoy their company. I feel for those animals; my heart goes out to them. It is very nice to hear the stories of people and their relationships with our furry friends who do enjoy their company and take the time to love them.

Animals are great for healing broken hearts and wounded souls. Do you find that at times when you are going on and on about something, one of your pets gives you a funny look, like they understand what you are going through?

We talk to all our animals all the time. Our dog has learned key words that get her excited so much that we now have to spell the words. One is Fox, squirrel is another if either of these is spoken in the house you had better be ready to open the door, because true to her hound nature she is running when she hits the screen.

They certainly do understand what we say, don't they? Your dog sounds like quite the hunter. Has your dog ever caught a fox or squirrel?

She's never caught anything and we want to keep it that way. Thanks

That's good she hasn't ever caught anything yet. Most wild creatures as you know can put a pretty good hurt on a domestic animal. It is great you are careful with your little girl's well being.

Nope! You aren't the 'crazy cat lady'. You just love your feline friends. I have 6 beautiful fur-babies, and I talk to each and every one of them. They are all indoor cats because I feel that is the only way to keep them safe. I also have 2 small dogs, and they both are very protective of their kitty 'sisters'. If I had the room, I would have 6 more!

Wow, 2 dogs as well as 6 cats. You are theee animal lover for sure! That is so cool that your dogs protect their smaller feline friends. How adorable. My guys got to go 'outside' today. One will sit and whine at the door for me to let him out on the enclosed porch, and since it is sunny and probably pretty warm on the porch I let them out. I really don't know what the big deal is, it is just another room..............lol.

Hi Rosegardens, I currently have 2 indoor semi-feral cats (that's a discussion in and of itself), 1 puppy, and 6 outdoor strays that live in the vicinity of my yard. I have had cats since I can remember. I had "Fluffy" for 15 years. The vets couldn't believe how big she was. One of my cousins came over and thought she was a statue until she moved, then he told my husband "Jesus Rick, what do you feed that thing!" I had to have her euthanized when she had kidney failure. I miss her dearly. A neighbor had a wonderful loving cat that they kept outdoors all the time. She made friends with the neighborhood. One day she had kittens at another neighbor's house in a box in their yard. The mother cat began dragging the kittens across the street to my house. I was afraid they would be killed, so I finally coaxed them into the house at about 3 months old. I thought I could tame them. Didn't happen completely. I still can't pick them up and hold them, but they are loving all the same, just skittish. When we moved into our first home last year, we found a mother cat and her kittens living in the next door neighbor's yard. The neighbor had been feeding the mother but when she had kittens she just stopped feeding them all. I found out when they stole my BBQ one day. Since then I have trapped them and had them all spayed and now feed them on a daily basis. There are about 6 of them. I cannot believe how cruel some people can be to abandon them like my neighbor did.

Wow, that is a lot of animals to take care of. lol--they stole your barbeque? That must have been a riot! How funny. It is good you moved there so you can take care of them.

I consider myself a crazy dog person. I do talk to my dog. She is a gorgeous blonde and she is all over me. She is the first person to greet me when I open the door. She wags her tail and does not stop until I greet her. There is no need to bring her flowers or expensive gifts to greet you like that.

When I was a pre-teen we acquired a couple of Cocker Spaniels. Dogs are always excited to see you. even if you're only gone 5 minutes, they greet you like they do when you've been gone for hours. My female cat always greets me when I walk in, sometimes the other guys are waiting for me too, but usually they come out of where ever they were after I come in the door. That just brightens me right up, seeing my cat waiting for me. I do really miss having a dog, but I cannot afford the vet visits and yearly shots and meds. They are more upkeep than cats are.

Awe, I am sorry you cannot at this moment have a pet. Perhaps soon you will be able to have one in a different housing situation. They are great to have and are constant companions and comedy relief. I hope your situation changes soon so you can have a pet. If you could have a pet, what would you like to have?
