MERCURY in thermometer

there is a recent controversy involving thermometer that contains mercury. it was proposed to be banned because of the danger it can cause to our health if it is broken and the content is inhaled.
what do you say?

as technology introduces innovations, like on the equipments that we use from day to day, there are some of what we used to have becomes obsolete. nowadays, we have digital thermometer, a change made because of the issue that we have with mercurial thermometers.

In case of thermometers, it can be replaced by electronic ones, but those are not the only product that contains mercury, the lamp in the background light of every LCD monitor on laptops or desktop computers contains mercury, and day by day are more LCD monitors sold all over the world...
