This is why I dont like taking afternoon naps, because after the nap is over I tend to still feel really groggy and sluggish afterward, and this feeling last for most of the day. so I prefer to just stay awake until bedtime, it seems best for me, and also if I sleep in the afternoons to often I can't sleep well at night during bedtime. of course sometimes taking a nap can't be helped, but as I said I prefer to avoid mid day or afternoon sleeping. Do you feel sleepy and groggy all day after a afternoon snooze?

I felt this sometimes but most of the time I dont feel sluggish at all. Afternoon naps has always been a part of my life and I just feel so tired and drowsy if I dont take a nap in the afternoon. Naps for me are very important especially that I stay in my work place for 12 hours and most of the time I talk so I really have to have a rest.

It is true, and there is a scientific explanation for that. When we nap, we do not get REM or dream sleep, and if we do, it is simply not enough. If we do not cycle through the REM state about 5 times when we do sleep, we will not get enough rest. We need 8 hours of sleep in order to go through the required amount of sleep cycles that will make us feel rested and rejuvenated.

I learned about it in a psychology course I took. It is very interesting and more complex than you would think! I thought sleep was sleep, until that course.

Hi, apples99. Yes, I do when I do get enough of rest for my afternoon nap. I am always dozing off when I am awake in the daytime. That is just my bodies way of telling me that I did not get enough of rest the night before.

they said, if you have too much sleep the next day you feel so weak and feel like you still want to sleep more than those who only have regular sleep or even those who only have 5 hours sleep. i tried it once when im still awake 6am and i forgot that i have importance meeting at 9am and since i dont have sleep yet i still tried to sleep to relax or rest my mind or else i will be sleepy the whole day. then at 8m i wake up coz someone wake me up. i nly have like 2 hours of sleep and i still feel like i have a lot of energy. what i did is i always rink water every minutes. then by the end of the day i become so exhausted that i sleep when i got home and wake up afternoon the next day and im still sleepy coz i sleep too much looks like my one sleepless night is not enough to have sleep the whole day of next day.

Ohh so I'm not the only one who feels like that, I see always a lot of people taking a nap in the afternoon, and I'm exactly like you, I always avoid to take a nap in the afternoons unless I'm very very tired beacause I'll not feel rested afterwards and I hate that feeling. And sometimes it's kind of traumating when I wake up and it's dark outside, I explained this feelings to friends who often take a nap in the afternoon but they couldn't understand how I feel.

Could you be anemic? No matter how much rest one gets, sometimes if a person is anemic they have all sorts of problems, including some of the ones you mentioned. I am frequently anemic, so I keep tablets of iron in my medicine cabinet. It's over the counter, in the mineral, vitamins, and herb section, so it is easy to find. You might try it for a few days if you suspect you could be anemic. Three days of one tablet a day of iron won't hurt you (unless you have hemocromatosis, which is having TOO much iron in the blood), and if you feel better by that time, maybe you really are anemic. Or you could see your doctor, have him run a simple blood test, and he could tell you for sure then.

well, if im in home, i would surely take a snap in the afternoon...because i would be helped in this matter i can gain my weight, if i eat and sleep in the afternoons .. I too suffer the same problem, if i sleep in the afternoons, i cannot get an immediate sleep in the night, so i have to wait for a long time in the night to get a good sleep...but anyhow i will manage by watching movies or tv shows like big bang theory... but i like sleeping in the afternoons...

I do not like to nap every afternoon and it is not practice since i am always surfing the net napping is rarely done by me except when i am really tired i would nap anywhere and anytime. Just a short nap would do even for a slightly 10 to 20 minutes it also best to rest my tired eyes and enough to keep my body and mind get relax for awhile. I only feel groggy during the night and not at day because it is the only time i get so feel sleepy and it indicates that signal to me that it is now the time for me to go to bed.

I don't really like to take afternoon naps all that much either. Because I will find myself being all groggy and not being able to concentrate after that. I do like to take naps occasionally when I am having problems sleeping the night before. I just find it may interrupt my night time sleep later on.

As much as I wanted to, I prefer not to take a nap during afternoon as it affects my sleeping at night. If I do, I cannot sleep at night until wee hours. I think its my biological clock thats doing it.

Actually I don't. Normally when I take a nap, short or long one, I feel better for the rest of the days. At least if I was feeling weak and sleepy, lack of energy and passion to drive past the hour, a short nap will be able to cure all these. And normally this symptoms appears if I just had my lunch.

Yea I find this to be true with me. I would fall asleep lets say around 5 and wake up around 8, I would still feel tired and not want to get up. And taking an afternoon nap really doesn't help when it comes time to go to sleep. I am usualy restless while I am trying to go to sleep if I took a nap early.
