Planned Parenthood does much good in America as it exists today. I am shocked and just plain mad to read more about the founder, a woman by the name of Margaret Sanger. She is given much credit for bringing this organization into being. If you research further, you will be disheartened to learn that this woman believed strongly in eugenics, which operates by the posit that you improve a group (such as people) by removing those which are viewed as 'defective'. Well wouldn't you know...Margaret Sanger advocated the abortion of African-American babies in order to eliminate what she considered 'socially undesirable people'. Please review this website for more information on this topic: http://www.acts1711.com/sanger.htm. I suppose it is a credit to our society that this component has been weeded out, even though they always sought to hide the truth so that they wouldn't look bad. I think this is a wonderful organization that does countless good throughout the country. I just think it's awful that it has such a sordid history. Was anyone else out there aware of this?

not all bad things end that way i guess. i did know some of this and i'm not saying the good out ways the bad but we all have a past. Lots of apparently good people supported eugenics in its time, not all of them were racists. Winston Churchill, HG wells, Alexander grame bell,Kellogg... However the idea that sanger was planning some mass eugenic program by 'encouraging' black women to have abortions is plain wrong and nothing more then a conspiracy theory. she was actually anti abortion.

And 5, 4, 3, 2, 1...that didn't take long. Were you able to keep a straight face in the mirror when you said that? How can you say that people who supported eugenics were NOT racist? Are you serious? Much of this was directed towards non-white people. www.citizenreviewonline.org/special_issues/population/the_negro_project.htm From what I have read thus far, nothing says she was anti-abortion. She started what later became Planned Parenthood because she got tired of watching women die as the result of them trying to self-abort. As for it being a conspiracy theory, I highly doubt it. Ever heard of the Tuskegee Experiment? There is a book called Medical Apartheid...pick it up.

yup i've heard of the tuskegee experiment and your point is? whats the connection to planned parenthood? None of the pre eugenics people from it's early days were overt racists, it was never about eradicating black people. Yes some racists hoped on the bandwagon but that doesn't mean there were all that way. everything i've ready about this in connection to Sanger and PP is conspiracy theory cooked up by prolifers. I'm not denying there there were some horrific medical experiments conducted on blacks and 'mental defectives' but that's nothing to do with planned parenthood

Margaret Sanger planned the abortion of African American people so that was shameful. We live in a multi cultural society and all colors of people are valued these days. Margaret Sanger sounded like a person similar to Hitler. It was not right that she removed those she thought were 'defective'. I am appalled at the truth behind Planned Parenthood. I think abortion is wrong because every baby is an innocent one that deserves to be born. I was offered an abortion when I was 36 weeks pregnant. I said no way and I let my disabled baby be born. He is a joyful little boy of 2 years old. I love all three children equally. Birth control is sensible and all abortions are a shame. The lady often regrets her abortion and she can't turn the clock back. Abortion is a mistake for many ladies.
