Saving a shaky marriage: a contingency plan

In almost 20 years of our married life, my wife and I have probably weathered the worst storms, so to speak. And every single time that I would think of leaving her and our kids, I always end up talking with her, resolving the issues that hound our relationship and our whole family. And come to think of it, after all these years, the secret to saving our shaky relationship from time to time can be summarized into one word -- COMMUNICATION. Lack of communication contributes to misunderstanding that broadens the gap between spouses, which eventually leads to separation when the gap cannot be bridged anymore. http://www.mylot.com/?ref=bananarepublica

I recently watched a christian movie called Fireproof. It's about fixing a shaky marriage. It is really touching and helpful. It's a must see for those suffering this kind of problem.

You have done very well to have kept communication in your marriage open. If things are not said the other partner can imagine stuff that is not true. It is necessary that the couple discuss things in a calm way. They should not shout or put each other down. Sometimes the answer is no and what the other partner wants is impossible. Often compromise is the best way to resolve difficult issues in a relationship. These days many people don't keep up with the art of conversation.
