So many people don't like these cats but I simply adore them, I think they are simply beautiful! I would very much like to buy one in the future but cannot afford them right now as most pedigree are over 1000 dollars. Yet i wanted to know some more information about them. What kind of care do they need? As I know they are more delicate than normal cats. And why are they so expensive? How loyal are they and protective? Thanks for your time. Any information would be appreciated, especially from people who have actually owned them.

This cat needs the same care like other species. A very good friend of mine has one and he takes care of it very well. LIke other cats it depends on her attitude to be protective or loyal. Cats usually like to be near their masters, and for example my cat is very lovely. The Hairless cats also have the advantage of not getting rid of their fur and you do not have cat fur all over your house. I think it`s a very interesting type of cat and good luck in finding and growing one up.

Thank you very much. I do hope to buy one soon yet I'm slightly tight in money right now so it will have to wait a bit longer.

there are a lot of reasons for the cost of these cats in part because there aren't a lot of them they are like the orientals they've been bred from, long lean bodies and active, outgoing personalities they are much more sensitive to cold than the average cat (I wonder why...) so they do have to be protected and kept warm They are also prone to skin cancers because they don't have a fur coating... lots of white cats also have this problem Good lucking down the road on getting one for yourself

I have a minskin, she was suppose to be hairless, but she has a very small amount. She cost alot less than the sphynx, she was only $250.00. We have had her about five years now, she is the most loving cat that we have ever had. She is very pretty, she is a cinnamon color. Her whiskers are curly, so she is not as graceful as other cats, she loses her balance very easily. She does have to stay in all the time, she loves to sit on our heat vents. She even has a t-shirt that she likes to wear when it is real cold. The only downfall that she has is she stinks most of the time, I think it has something to do with the oil on her skin. Which makes it hard because she wants to love you all the time, she will crawl up and try to get in your face, and it is "Oh my gosh, Sassy you stink." As you can see I love her very much since I used her name in my user name.

So does she have enough hair to shed and leave hair everywhere? I'm very happy you love her very much as that is the way it's supposed to be.

I don't own them, but I have seen some important information on them from cats 101 on animal planet. They featured this cat. According to them this cat is easy-going and well mannered. Since they have no "furr" they need to be bathed at least once a week twice maybe because their skin collects a lot of oil. As for why they are so expencive, they are rare and hard to find and breed. thus why the price is so high.

yes i have seen it in tv. but i don't like it. i think it is weird a cat without fur. i like cat because of its fur. but i think it is expensive because of its hairlessness.

I replied to someone else's question about the same thing. My fiance's grandmother owns a sphynx. She is exceptionally sweet and loving. She likes to feel different textures against her skin so she'll rub all over people's hair and clothes. She likes to climb on people's shoulders and takes pretty well to new people. Of course the personality will differ from cat to cat but they are very outgoing. They require a good deal of care but you don't have to worry about the shedding at least! If you live in a very dry and sunny place you will want to invest in a sunscreen for the kitty because they can get sunburned. Even as an indoor cat, they like basking in the warmth of the sun so they still need it. You'll also need things to keep the sphynx warm, a heating pad is good to invest in as well as a comfy bed that is well insulated. They are one of the few breeds that I don't think pet clothes are ridiculous for because it will help protect them and keep them warm. From what I have experienced they really are great pets! Just keep doing research to make sure they are the cat for you, since they are an expensive, and rare, breed you won't want to make the decision lightly.
