I think the antivirus optimum for your computer specification is AVG Antivirus. It is not as heavy Norton or any other Antivirus applications. It is a light application and should perform well in your computer. The performance of AVG is also formidable

AVG is fast because it works mainly in RAM. I found some stats for an old version 8.0.138 : RAM used during idle 38244K / during scanning 88244K. For a computer with 256Mo RAM, it's not a good choice.

The lightest for memory usage (as it is a real problem on your computer) is PC Tools Antivirus Free Edition. It uses around 6Mo RAM during idle and 30 Mo when scanning. Kaspersky and Norton are around 6Mo idle/50Mo scanning : you can also use them in this computer.

You can try also Avira AntiVir, it's free. That's what I am using too for 1 year. I found it good.

If you dont want to spend money I would say AVAST but if you dont care to spend money why not go big with norton's but AVAST is pretty good to use.

AVG and Avast both have free versions that should work fine. Comodo also has a free antivirus program that should work fine as well.

You shouldn't really need antivirus if you don't stray onto any bad websites. I've got AVG free but it's never got anything and I download as well so that's quite surprising. If you're safe, your computer will be too.

I use AVG or Avast. They are both good and you can download either of them for free.AVG is a combination of anti virus and anti spyware while Avast is anti virus only so you will still need to download an anti spyware software.I use spybot for my anti spyware scan needs.

I think norton corporate edition is good to your PIII because you can download the updated version & easily not big to the memory of your computer.Other antivirus are AVG, AVAST.

If you want a free antivirus, that can help your compter against viruses, you should try Avast or nortron. I personally use Kaspersky that is very good, And also a good one is ESET Smart Security.
