Why do people sleep walk?

I wanted to know why it is that people sleep walk. My brother did it once before because my mom tried to call him when he came to her room and just looked at the baby in the crib. I find that to be a bit creepy and scary. I have been wondering why he did that I mean he hasn't done that again. Still why do people sleep walk???

I wonder if they know why. It does seem to be stress in your life for many people. It seems to run in my family. My mother, myself, and one of my sisters all walk in our sleep. My moms was from stress in her life. It ended many years ago, for apparently no reason. Myself when I am extremely tired I will sleep walk. I mean really tired, like no sleep in days. I have not done it in many years. My sister never seemed to have a reason, but only did it as a child, and then not since. My son also walks in his sleep, though it is very rare now. His was funny because it was if he had to pee, but he would get up, and just want to go anywhere. He would come out the the LR and act like the TV was the toilet, or open the refrigerator, really strange things. He went in his sisters room one night, and started to aim at her bed. We always get to him quick enough. We have even found him so he fell back to sleep on the toilet. While we laugh, it was actually quite scary. I was always afraid he would try to go outside. We had double locks, and alarms on all doors for many years.

whatever the cause of sleep walking, maybe in our minds curious about something out there when continue to sleep while thinking so that we subconsciously like being in two of nature, reality and fantasy. This ever happened to me but I don't remember anything, that I knew I was already in place should not be.
