computer recommendation

Hi Lotters,
I am looking for a recommendation for a lap top computer for a 24 year old girl leaving to work in Thailand for a year. Recommendations as to type and any other matters of concern will be greatly appreciated.

hi! first the age has nothing to do here :) the most important is the money that you can spend for a laptop. because if you are ready to give $1500-2000 then I will recommend you to buy Sony Vaio, because it is the best laptop, that you can find for those money, but if you can spend $800-1000 for it, then go and check the ASUS and ACER models, because they are really good, stable, handy, and with many features at a really good price

I don;t know the ASUS model at all, but I have heard of the ACER model. I was thinking in the $800-$1000 range.

well you cant go wrong with DELL.....they have sturdy laptops that will last and are reliable. For more fashion and looks, Sony have really good resolution screens. Dont buy anything with under 2 gigs of ram and under a Core2Duo if you want ok speed and average performance. go to dell.com for some laptops.
