And is not today only! According to UNICEF, 25,000 children die each day due to poverty. It means they die because they have no food at all, or maybe because they don't have water. To better understand the problem, imagine that EVERY YEAR the states of Oklahoma, Colorado and Wyoming became totally unpopulated, because ALL the population die. So, you will think, why you said they were killed? They just die for natural causes. Well, in the third millenium, I don't guess we can accept the concept that die because of lack of food is a natural cause. If is true that the 10% of the world population have the 85% of the world richness (and is true), shouldn't the richest people (and countries) care about the ones that die due lack of food? Or we want to say is not our problem? The 20 poorest countries in the world have a per person annual income around $360! Yes, you read right, is threehundredfifty dollars per year! And, obviously, this is the average. To can compare, for the US the per person annual income is around $50,000. If you earn less than $50,000, is not a mistake, is just that this number is the average. I see lot of people protest for the whales hunt, for the rights of the animals, protest against fur coats,... protest for any kind of things. Sure, these are important things. I'm really sad to know that whales are killed, and for sure I don't like to know that some kind of animals are killed to make coats. But, please, could someone explain me why we are so touched from these kind of things, and we are so unresponsive about the starvation around the world? Why we do nothing for these

There's so much suffering around the world but I guess it's up to the individual to decide which cause to give their money too. Personally, I give to charity street collectors for all kinds of causes, from poverty relief to animal charities. I'm a big believer in the saying, "Give a man a fish and you'll feed him for a day; give him a fishing rod and you'll feed him for life." Therefore, my husband and I have sponsored a child in the developing world, a little girl from Vietnam. Our money pays for her to go to school and it helps with community projects. We write to each other and we send her little gifts. The charity, called World Vision, has projects all over the world, from digging wells in Africa to setting up farming co-operatives in South America. They do gifts too and at Christmas, instead of giving presents to some members of my family, we donate something like a goat, chickens, blankets, malaria nets or innoculations in their name. It's a really great charity. Take a look here www.worldvision.com

Eheheheh, yes you're right. The problem is that too much often we not only forget to give them a fishing rod, we also steal their own fishes ;) Have a nice time

You can take a look to this page, maybe you could find it interesting. And it could help me to better explain you why I guess this is a problem that couldn't be solved by chairty, but need be afforded by nations. And we, the citizen, should try to push our governments to join the cause. http://www.poverty.com/internationalaid.html

I am deeply touched by that. And I agree with you that many people are touched by a puppy that has not been trated well but don´t care about billions os hugry people in hte world. I know that mylot does not accept links. By I have promoted a site here, thinking that there´s something called the spirit of the law. I am talking about a site called www.freerice.com This site belongs to the United Nations World Food Programme. There are 2 ways to donate rice there, none of which means that you have to take money out of your pockets. I say this last thing because I´m aware that most of the people that earn pennies online are not rich. In this site there are little games tha can even help you learn something. For each coorect answer, some grains of rice are donates. But if you don´t have time to do that, there´s an easier way: you can download a toolbar and do your searches through the site. The search engine is yahoo so you will get all you need there. By those meanse you can donate up to 5000 grains of rice a day. I do it everyday. I´m not religious but I think the most beautiful prayer is "Our father". And in one part it says: "give us our daily bread". All human beings are entitled to enough food to survive and to flourish doing something useful for them and for others. Pierone, my friend. I am glad that you care. Take a look at that site, please. There´s nothing to lose. Take care

I am a primary school teacher because I love working with children and I am interested in education. I eat a vegan diet for ethical reasons and it is also a healthy choice. I am very keen on traveling to different countries and I stay at locally owned guest houses. I went to Indonesia when I was 21 years old. I traveled to Kenya when I was 25 years old. I went to the Maldives when I was 33 years old. It shocked me that whilst rich tourists are paying hundreds of dollars every night for their luxury accommodation some local people live on less than a dollar a day. When I was 34 years old I visited Guatemala. Some poor countries have something worth seeing like the Gambia has palm fringed beaches and Kenya has amazing wildlife. I read a list of the 20 poorest countries and 19 of them are in African countries that are not popular destinations. One of the countries is Nepal in Asia. All children in the world should have clean water to drink and decent food to eat. It is ever so sad that around 25,000 children a day die. These are some nasty diseases in some areas of the world like Malaria in Kenya and Yellow Fever in Panama. I am touched by causes like child poverty and animal rights. Sadly what I can do to help is limited but I do support charities helping people and animals.

Hi. Thanks for your words. Support chairties is for sure something good, but I guess should be the Nations to do something. We all pay taxes, we all see everyday how our money are wasted in millions ways. We are ready to manifestate for everything, there are protests every day all over the world. What is curious, I never see a protest to ask our governments to stop this murdering. Because, to be clear, if lot of people are in these condition, often is "thanks" to the the "western" countries companies (and governments) that abuse the resouces of these "poor" countries, becoming rich and leaving them without food. Try to search some news about the "coltan"... you will be surprised knowing how precious it is, how useful for "our" technology is, how expensive it is, and how poor is the country that have the biggest coltan mines in the world.
