Most people are less appreciative of that Abstract paintings, because most of them didn't get the meaning of it...Every work of art has its own story, all you need to do is to look beyond it. I am an artist in my own little way,and though I don't usually do abstract as my subject but I learned to appreciate them considering the colors, the materials, the stroke that the artist used to come up with a piece like that. In understanding the abstract paints is like understanding the emotions of the artists behind it. To those who love art what do you know about abstract?your share of thoughts is a count.

I have to say, I like a picture to look like something. Having said that, I've seen pictures that look abstract until you really study them, and then you discover that they really are something, not just colors and strokes on a canvas - oh, maybe not a "real" thing, but more than one picture I saw in college which was a bunch of mostly white paint, with a few pale, PALE tints in it kind of swirled on the canvas - even the ART students didn't know what to think of it (and it was like 4x6 feet and hung in the entrance of the art building... "Polar bear in a snow storm" we considered it, maybe eating a vanilla ice cream....

I remember one time when I borrowed an art book from our curator at our university museum, there was an artist who just used dots, at first look of his art you can't see what's in it until you take time staring at his painting closely and you see horses. I agree, that by studying what's there in an abstract art you will discover that there are something beyond you see at first look. An abstract art is not an absurd art...I read an article that the author said, abstract art comes from artists' willingness to express their vivid imaginations...

HI!I am a green hand.About this discussion,I just want to say abstract art reflects artist'emotions.I visited a famous abstract arist in China. He told me that his paiting just want to reflect his happiness or angry though different color pathes and lines. He didn't define any thesis before he had paited.
