Hi siliguri, Beggars are common in our place and giving large amount of money is not at all possible for us. We are meeting these people everyday and if we provided large sums of money then soon they will become rich and we will become bankrupt. Usually I am giving one rupee coin/two rupee coin or five rupees coin/note. On my way a lady is sitting in the path and she can’t walk as her legs have some problem. If I see her I may provide Rs. Ten to her and I think that is the maximum amount I have given for a single beggar at one time.

Last christmas season there were kids caroling at the gate of my uncles house. I gave 10 peso and 5 peso coins to only one kid. There were two others that received money from me earlier but they shared two 5 peso coins.

Actually the highest i give to a single beggar is about $3. But it is my sister who gives $11 dollar to a native woman who has three young malnourished children with her. She also find an eatery and buy foods for them and eat with them. She was able to carry the one year old girl the youngest who happens to be skinny surely lacking of vitamins and minerals in her young body. After eating she talk with the mother and ask about their condition. She then give her the money. My sister has a big heart and always have deep sympathy for those people who really needs help. She still giving alms like me fake beggars or not.

My heart goes out to your described kind of beggar. We know this man can not find work anymore, or has a severe disabiility or is rejected by families (and too bad at this age when he need them the most). For me, this is the REAL beggar. To this kind of beggar, i have once given all my coins, big & small that was in my wallet & in my bag. Haven't counted them though but they were not few. There are also some beggars who are healthier looking than yourself! They play songs on the street, sing, or even dance. This kind of beggar i do not give anything. I have seen reports of rich beggars, one which buys nice car, a nice pad(apartment), and wear nice clothes when he is not begging. Another kind of beggar i notice are those who begs for food. They have a placard hanging on their neck which states " i am hungry". I have given many times to this kind of beggar, not money but BREAD. I'd buy bread enough for him & his family's a few days meals.
