I just had a blood test and found that the iron content in my body is really low. Doctor prescribed an iron tonic for me and also told me to have dates and spinach, which are rich in iron. I also heard that beef has a lot of iron. I also heard from that most of the women in India, who are above 45 years are anemic (lack of iron). Have you ever checked iron deficiency in your blood? What are the types of food rich iron?

i try to avoid taking too much allopathic medicines fearing side effects. I rely mostly on naturally available or home remedies for small ailments. Green leaves are very good sources of iron. I along with the other members of the family used to take a glass of vegetable juice early morning in empty stomuch. This cured most of our ailments

It is good to have vegetable juice in empty stomach. I also heard that having four glasses of water in empty stomach every morning will cure a lot of ailments. I am happy to hear that you are practicing having the juice. Usually, people will start it and drope after a few days. I wonder if you addd bitter gourd in the juice, which is very good for health.

Hi Daliaj, The last time I took iron supplements was when I was pregnant, and that was 7 years ago. Haven't checked if there is any iron deficiency in my blood but now thinking about it I think I should.

Iron deficiency leads to frequent tiredness.Heme-iron is obtained from red meat and that is important with iron from other sources. I have read that babies who take cow's milk before 18 months, tend to get their bowel iritated and this causes problems in iron absorption for the rest of their life. It must be the reason for iron deficiency among Indians. Spinach, liver and dates are good sources of Iron. my dad has also not enough iron in his blood. he has to swallow lots of pills everyday and sometimes go to get an injection with his doctor. i think i also don't have enough iron as i sometimes see black spots (but that could also be lead by to low sugar amount in my blood. oh well)

I used to take iron supplements last year. I was low in blood and I often feel weak and sleepy. They say green leafy vegetable and meat are rich in iron. There are many foods that are rich in iron, I just forgot most of them. Well, now, I think I'm not anemic anymore.

Hi dalia, I am not taking any iron supplements or any vitamins at present. I think I had my iron tablets when I was pregnant. I can’t recall the situation I took iron tablets other than this. Last month I have tested the HB and now it is below t normal but there is nothing to worry and doctor didn’t prescribe any tablet too. He asked me why you are not eating food properly. Dates are really good for iron deficiency and rich with iron. Coconut is also rich with iron dear and it is the biggest source of iron. So try to eat coconut in raw form. Onion (small one available in Kerala) is rich in iron and jaggery (called chakkara in our place) is good. Drumstick leaves are good source of iron and I think which is available in your place where you stay. Include banana and pomegranate in your diet it can help to increase the HB.
