Everyone has their own definition of Success. Some only consider those who are very wealthy to be successful. For me to be a success is to the best person that I can be, volunteer in my community and to support myself and my family so that we are comfortable. Having a large house or a fancy sports car isn't important to me. I have met so many people who define success by how much money they have and yet few of them are happy. What does being Successful mean to you?

Hi friend, you rightly said, success means different things to different people. to put in simple term, sucess is achieving what we want, or more than what we want. Si success always makes one happy. For example for a student geting above 90% marks may be his traget(What he wants) if he gets that he has got a success, While if for other student if he wants to come first in class, and he stands third, even though he has got more than 92% marks he may not think that he is successful. My defination of success is to ensure good living to my family, and to be able to meet aspirations of my kids financially, for whatever they want to study. Also to be able to give them moraland psychological support to them, as and when it is needed. to make them setteled after their marriage. If i am able to do that, i will see myself as successful man and be happy for that.

I think that I am very much like you! Being able to care for and support a family so that their needs are met and exceeded is to me a fine measure of success. You explained the student example so well! One has to have one's own measure of success and it likely changes over time. Thank you for sharing!

For me, success is when you achieved your goals in life. Success is the opposite of failure. So, when you set a goal, and your worked for it, and after working on it you did not land in both failure and stalemate, then probably you landed in the land of "success"! That's success to me!

As for the material things like having lots of money, beautiful houses, and shiny cars, that's also success to me. When you are born poor, you experience hardships in life, and your stomach aches. Then you start dreaming of living abundantly, and with that dream you are inspired to set goals in life. Then if you work on your goals, and then achieved them, earned wealth to buy all the things you want and never having your stomach aches again, and never having yourself be deprived of comfortable living, then that's a clear illustration of success! It only means you have achieved your goals! You know, we are living in a very hard life here in this world. For those people living in third world countries like the Philippines, the hardships in life made most people think of moving up to financial success to improve their standard of living. So, with these, we cannot blame people for inclining so much the word success to "material success". That's the product or the result of the environment we live in. For people who will say "money is not important", maybe they have not experienced the hardships poor people experience in the streets. If ever the fate will accidentally put you in the middle of the streets where poor people battle as if it is a jungle where the rule is "survival of the fittest", then probably naive people will say "yes, indeed, money is so very important". There is a "deep reason" why in this world, success is always viewed in "material lense".

You have made some wonderful vividly expressed points. Success is a unique concept and what makes one feel successful is in part relative to where one is in the world. Having grown up in the USA, sometimes I think we forget that just being fed can be successful. Thank you for your eloquent comments! Take care and be well!!

Success is reaching my goals and dream. And yes either we like it or not. Money can make our dreams come true. So we must enjoy our life to the fullest with the help of money. But we must not use money to corrupt our self.

Hello Tallygirl, There are two types of successes. One is a long term success which is achieved to reach a final goal. This goal may be the ultimate purpose of your life. Once you achieve this goal you may get quite indifferent about your surroundings. You feel completely satisfied and contented. Then there is a short term success. Your life is nothing but a certain amount of time, which you split in several phases to manage it more effectively. You reach a goal and then renew it or set another short term goal to reach. This is like going upstairs (or even downstairs). Short term successes brings stronger urge for another success. In this way our life becomes a whole series of wonderful events. Now, success is equally applicable in bad things. One can be a reformed and successful thief as well, though I am not sure about what their long term aim might be. As the purpose depends entirely on personal choices, everyone must have his own idea of success, and everyone of them is as true as the other. Take care God bless you

You have a very interesting perspective. It's nice that you think that everyone should have their own definition of success. We are all different after all. Thanks for sharing!

For me, SUCCESS is having what can make you and your love ones happy. You don't have to be rich, and get a good job to be considered successful. Because success as I understand it is when you are contented with the things you have and being happy with it.

I can call myself successful when I have reached my goals for my career, made investments, saved some money in the bank, and am content and happy with what I have. It's not really being rich that defines success, rather it's the personal feeling of having attained what you've longed for and finding happiness in it. As long as my family and the people I love support me, I call myself happy. Then, am I successful. :)

hi tallygirl, Definition of success varies from one person to another. While some can measure success by the amount of money he have, some measure it by the popularity he gets and some measure it by the power he had attained all throughout his life. For me, success is something intangible. For me, I can experience it every days of my life. Waking up with a healthy body, peaceful mind, and with people who is always there to support, care and love you. If I can spend my day without arguing with another person, and if there is problem, I can easily solved it then that is success for me. If my friends are greater than my enemies, then that is success for me. I know a number of people who do have great amount of money, having luxury houses and cars, and owing many companies and gaining a big name in different areas but then they do not have a happy life. As for me, I do not have to gain things like that in order to be successful in life. Knowing God and living on His will is enough for me to achieve success.

Everyone has its own story. If you have reached your certain goal in life then that is your success. But there are so many areas in life which could be consider you have reached your objective or goal.Is it wealth, family, fame or whatever set in your mind?.In my life I never say I am a success person because until now I never get closer to my goal of being a wealthy man. So I enjoy myself of being a simple person of having family, children, and a happy life.During my younger days I dream of being reached in 5 years time but never materialized so I used the plan B of getting it by hard work and dedication in another 10 years yet still never came.Still the means could not justify the end.Success is only given by God in his own time and his own choice.God bless.

SUCCESS for me is the certain aim/goal in your life that you have reached or you will reach later on, and that you get contented and happy about it. Sometimes though, human has the tendency to think he/she have not reached success yet, because when he/she reaches his/her goal, he aims higher than it supposed to be.

Success. Such a complicated word but I'll make it simple. Success can be found in different categories - whether financial or in general. For me, success is a point in life of a person where he/she has attained contentment. Once you're not contented with what you have, you cannot claim success because you always want to achieve more. Therefore, being contented is a peak of human's life - SUCCESS!

wow! different success from different perspective. success is when you have done what you have always dreamed of when you were still a kid. finishing what you want and what you really want like having a career and being the top dog or being an average joe but having the best time of his life. only one term to define success and that is "then you are happy of what you have done".

If u're trying to achieve, there will be roadblocks I've had them; everybody has had them. But obstacle don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, dont turn around and give up.Figure out how to climb it,go through it or work around it until you get succeed
