How long have you been unemployed and what are you intended to do?

I got really confused about my life and future. I've been unemployed for more than a year. I'm hunting for a job, but the result turns out to be so disappointing. And I find it difficult for women in their thirties to find a suitable job. I felt sad and depressed when one of the interview officers told me that married non-pregnant women like me were regarded as the most unwanted candidates by employers. Is there anyone in the same situation like me? What are you intended to to? Can you share your plans?

I became 'unemployed' about 6 months ago, and it has actually become a blessing!! I've been a musician for 10 years +, and always figured one of these days I'd turn it into a career. Someday when I had time to DO IT!! Well, unemployed gives you the time to do it, that's for sure! I don't want anyone to think that I turned it into a career overnight, because that isn't true. Like I said, I've been doing it between work schedules for 10 years. However, not having a job made me eager enough to get enough gigs lined up to pay some bills until I could find a job. By doing that, I ended up getting enough gigs to not have to worry about getting a job!! So, that renewed my interest in my home-based business. If I could earn a few bucks doing that, then I would have a safety net if the music slowed down. Needless to say, my home-business has grown substantially, and the music hasn't slowed down at all. In fact, I'll be releasing a new CD, 'Doublewide White Trash (Ain't So Bad)' in April; and my tour dates have been nearly filled up through the summer for over a month already! Anyway, here's my advice. If you're surviving the 'unemployment status', take advantage and become self sufficient through a hobby, or an enjoyable home-based business. Technically, I'm self employed, which still means 'employed'. However, when you're enjoying what you do, you seldom realize the newly 'employed' status. There are tons of jobs available that don't require an employer to attain. Mow lawns, painter, snow removal, carpenter. Maybe you have a hobby. It took me years to realize that whatever your hobby is, someone is paying someone else to do it for them. My wife LOVES to assemble photo books and scrapbooks. I never realized it was an art form. I always put photos in a book, and bought a new book when it got filled up. However, I learned that some people actually pay someone else to put their photos in a book neatly and creatively. Another friend is an excellent cook! He has a fulltime occupation, but constantly cooks and caters for weddings and events. I know a couple of fulltime caterers. They have a lot of overhead, employees, and do a lot of business too! However, this guy just cooks and prepares food once or twice a month due to one referral after another, yet earns a sizeable income for his part time efforts. So, take advantage of the disadvantage!!

well, I know for some country that when you reached at the age of 30's nobody will hire you unless you turn 30 in the company where you work for decades. well, if nobody will hire you because of your age that sound like a discrimination. what country you are now? Anyway, it's okey because you can do business in that way you are free of a Boss. You are the Boss.! there are so many ways to earn money not just being employed. about me, I was unemployed since I got married for three years now. but I do selling of different kinds of stuff that i know people will buy.! there's a lot of things you can do here online. you can be a virtual assistant if you have skills, you can sell stuff on ebay.com, amazon.com don't worry there are tons of ways to earn money..just think what do you like or enjoy. or what is your hobby? you can turn it into a business and usually it's the one that usually succeed in the name of business.!

I was also recently unemployed for almost 5 months and was it ever a struggle. i have three daughters and believe me having no income with three daughters is no walk in the park. I handed out tons of resumes and no one seemed interested in hiring me. I had no choice but to go on Social Assistance and they refered me to a place called Job Corp and now I a receptionist traing for Office Admin and I waitress part time in the evenings. it is definately tough to get a job but you will find one. Just don't give up and keep your head held high!!! God Bless.

Hi, friend. Sorry to hear that. It's true that women are prejudiced against in terms of employment, but i think there are other ways out there. Online earning is a good alternative, and many housewives are engaged in earning from various sites, such as mylot and others. Though you may not be rich depending on online earning, it can definitely help you to ease financial difficulty. You can try some legit sites and seriously work on them, and don't forget to seek referrals who help you earn faster. Good luck!

Life isn't meant to be easy, difficulties, problems, crisis just come one after another. Well, I'm even not that lucky as you said. I've applied for dozens of jobs, but only ten companies have contacted me for interviews. Good luck! God bless us!

hi my gilfreind was in exatly the same situation - in her 30-s, civil engineer and jobless for 8 months then she started a job at a plotter center then she became a part-time teacher in a children day-care she is still looking for an engineer career, but at the moment she has some incomes and meets new people :) so don't look for a final decision right now you need to get back you confidence and to see that there are people who are looking not for a reason to reject you, but to accept you good luck and be brave and optimistic

Hello, First of all let me welcome you to the site! I believe it's been about a month since my last job. I was laid off but I knew I would be because I worked as an In Home Aide. In any case, I've been without a job before that for about two years. It didn't really concern me then but now since I've been out of work I am more concerned because I am recently married and my husband and I have bills to pay as well as our wants and needs to save for. I've found this site to be helpful for a little bit of pocket change and it can sometimes help fill the boredom of not having a job. If you can not find a job you could look into other money making opportunities for now, but with summer just around the corner I would think jobs would start opening up, if nothing else you could find some temporary work?

Thank you and please accept my hearty congratulations upon your marriage. I'm doing some tutoring work at home to cover all my expenses, trying so hard to keep my head above water. But if I don't have a job, I have no insurance at all. That's so sad.

i was unemployed for many months now coz im pregnant and its hard for me to find job right now so i decided to give birth first before i will look for new job. thats why i hate the father of my baby coz he knows i lost my job and yet he left me knowing i need him the most, i was very depressed and maybe more depressed than you as i guess you can just stand up and find new job anytime without thinking of being pregnant and furture responsibility being a mother and where to get money to support the baby. but then better to know him early and im thankful coz my ex came back and were back together. thank god i have family who supported me all the way.
