My son just got a new job and I am glad as he and his wife have a baby on the way. The problem I have is he will be driving for three hours one way everyday for the first three weeks. After that he will be gone two weeks at a time then he will be home for four to five days before going back out on the job. I just worry when one of my children are on the road so much as I know the more one is on the road the more chances they have at having an accident. I know there are worse things one being over seas fighting for our country. Not that fighting for our country is a bad thing but I know the worry would be double or triple. Anyone else have a child that travels for for work? I would like to have your views about this. Any comments would be appreciated. What are your worries about your children?

You know there are lots of other things worse than driving. Accidents do happen but they also happen a bigger percentage of the time to those who are less than ten miles from home. Fighting for our country is dangerous but worthy of the honor bestowed on our soldiers but your son doen't have that intent. you are too much like me and worry like crazy. My son drives all day as he reads meters for the electric co. and he too has had an accident or two in twenty years----20 years ?? he could have had that many driving to the grocery store and back. It's just life and we live with what we are given. In this instance your son was given a job---something some do not have at this time. A job ! But,given his maturity and age I'd say he'll be fine and by the way congrats on the new baby !! hugs, quita

Thank you for responding and I know accidents happen everywhere. It's just that I know from experience that the more you are on te road the more chance you have of having an accident. I'm proud of my son because of his hard work as this is a job that not just anyone can do. He has worked very hard to get where he is. He would probably have a cow if he thought I was going to worry so I'll just keep him in the dark on that. As far as our service men and women go I am proud of each and everyone that fight and are away from their families to keep our country free. I don't mean to make it sound like fighting for our country is a bad thing because it is the most honorable thing one could. I know I do worry more than I should my husband tells me that all the time. My only answer is if I could stop it I would I don't like this feeling. Thank you both for the congrats on my new grandchild. I can hardly wait as this will be the first girl. After four grandsons I started to wonder if I would ever get a granddaughter. I am glad rachael that your accident was not worse. Thanks to both for reminding me that anything can happen no matter where we are.

I could fall off this front porch and be hurt today. I could also drive 20 miles from here and have an accident and be hurt. Odds are the two incidents would be about the same. We all take chances even when we get out of bed in the morning. We cold slip in the shower and be bunged up for months. One incident that is fresh for me is the ice storm we had in late Jan and early Feb of this year. The ice was really heavy on the tree limbs and it was dangerous to walk outside. A friend's daughter was walking to her car and an ice covered limb broke and hit her in the head and she is now paralzyed for the rest of her life. She is only 18. We all suffer from freak accidents but isn't this the point of this discussion?? God Bless you all, quita
