All about adding widgets in blog

I maintain four blogs.The problems which I face is after adding widgets it takes a lot of time to load and sometimes the widget itself doesnot appear on the blog after doing the required steps.Is it safe to add widgets of third party in blogs?

Im trying to learn about this too. I have affiliate with Amazon and they have a new widget thing, but I have n't had time to look into it specifically. I'd like to hear about how they work too.
