In the year 2007, I lost my mom due to heart attack. It was so sudden that it left us dumbfounded at first. She was the one who managed the family finances and so forth then all of a sudden, she was gone and we were left to deal with everything. It was such a great responsibility. As the eldest child, I took over what she left and became responsible for the family's welfare since my father wasn't able to function well since he got depressed after my mother's death and had a stroke a year later. I struggled with the big responsibility for caring for my father and guiding my brothers that sometimes I cry when I felt so down.

Im so sorry for your loss, I cant imagine how you must be feeling. My life altering event would be taking my uncle to court, he sexually abused me when I was younger and I spent many years after suffering from depression and self-harming. I went to the police and the case went to court, he was found guilty, I definately became a stronger person because of it, the "strength" didnt kick in straight away but Ive gone from a person who used to lock herself in her room every night self-harming, to someone who sees everything in a positive light, has been traveling and is planning on doing more, Im definately more confident now and I think its helped me to become more understanding of others, and even though I still have a lot of scars I know I will never fall that deep into depression again.
