what have you experienced as a cashier?

i have worked as cashier many times before but i have experienced shortages before.the customer is paying in debit card and the machine is not functioning well,i did something wrong for swiping the card twice.i should have just ask for assistance before doing so.i remembered it was 2,500PHP. i'm obliged to do shopping for me to pay for that transaction. how about you?what are your experiences as a cashier?

shopping for you? I'm not quite sure what you meant by that. I've been a cashier in the past. I've come acroess the cash register not working the scanner being difficult, even customers not being able to pay for things. I've also come across peculiarities in customer's behaviors, and customers who were trying to steal.

because the debit card had approved twice,i should purchase the other one buy shopping for myself.but then i still paid for the items in cash.

I believe here the orders can be voided so in that if the card was swiped twice the second would have been voided off and no need for anybody to purchase anymore.

as long as i can remember, the customer was really mad that time,and so the management agreed on paying the customer at once.i payed them at my own money.then i got to purchase the another approved statement that time.

when i was a cashier i have experienced shortages and i almost lost my 2 gift certificates worth P1000 and P500, my friend helped me in searching at garbage hehe then the day after the other cashier saw it in the drawer it is stuck on the edge..

hello there,ailynne! welcome to mylot and thank you for taking time to respond on my long lost discussion,hehe i'm happy for a moment when i posted this topic cause i was still newbie that time when i started this discussion.it reminded me of myself at you,you are also newbie here.funny.:D yeah,regards to your post,i remember i'm kinda like you back then.it was long time since i worked as a cashier and i can still remember the fun it brings when i still am a cashier back then. so,you have shortage of two gift certificates,then the next day,you find it.lucky you! for some reasons i was like that before.my 1000 peso bill got stocked to my cash register that time,but before the day ends i have found it,that's why i am saved! hehe there are also customers who tried to fool cashiers when it comes to money,i just hate it when i remember i became a victim also..so bad!

I was a cashier in my dad's store, so I have experienced shortages as well. But my dad just told me it's okay, after all, he's my dad. And the shortages were not that huge.

lucky you,it's just your dad,and you said so yourself that it's not huge amount that's why it's much easier to forget things like that!

This is really one of the problem working as a cashier,shortages and paying the money back. It's fine if your salary is also good...but i doubt if a cashier is having a good salary.

jobs like cashier don't have big salaries, you know. they are just earning minimum wages and it is really one of the tiring and hard thing to do. I can say, there are customers who can be irritating and there would be nice people as well. depends on how your day works. I'm somehow glad that I have encountered such.

i currently work as a cashier, and boy have i had sone weird shoppers. One shopper brought 45 pairs of shoe gel pads, 45! And on the cashier by me, someone spent over £300 of stuff. Considering that i work in primark, thats some achievement!

one time I experienced shortage. I'm working at payment center and it was peak week. After the whole day of accepting payments and do balancing I found out I was by PHP2,000. I spend 2 hours checking all my paper works to find it but never happens. I just cried and pray hoping that it will never happen again.

hello thereza! It really feel bad that some time in our lives we experience such things. It was really hard to accept that we made shortages when we don't even realize it has happened. I remember when i was cashiering before, I had shortage of 6 hundred pesos I think and the next day we found out that one cashier had used my pin and name on her transaction to make me had that shortage for her own good. Well, it was past, and I hope that person learned her lesson. What happened to your shortage? You didn't find the money? Too bad experience we have right? I think that when it comes to cashiering we really have to be open minded and focused in all aspects for us to know what had happened in our every transaction made. Have a great day!
